Recap: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 5X03: Slay Anything
The Legends have a slayer to stop in 1989, and Ray has a great idea how to stop him. But will it work?
Ray rhymes with slay. That is meaningless, but I wanted to point it out.
Spoilers
A Good Day to Slay(Again)
Slasher Freddy Meyers is brought back from the dead in 2004 to finish what he started in 1989 at his class’s fifteen year reunion. If the name sounds familiar, he’s a cross between this Freddy and this Myers.
No Singing, No Slaying, No Box Touching
John(Matt Ryan) has a “no musical/no touch my arcana box unless you wanna get haunted” clause, meanwhile, he has things to investigate with Gary(Adam Tsekhman). He jumps ship, staying firmly in the now.
In true Gary fashion, he messed up a spell. John puts him to rights, breaks into his old place, and catches a John/Charlie(Maisie Richardson-Sellers) partying inside.
Fairy Godmother Nora(Courtney Ford) appears, and is exhausted from giving kids ponies. They all want ponies. Ray(Brandon Routh) gives her a blanket, and Gideon(voiced by Amy Louise Pemberton) cancels playing Chicago.
Tonight We’re Gonna Party Like it’s the Wrong Year
Sara(Caity Lotz), Ava(Jes Macallan), Nate(Nick Zano), Ray, and Mick(Dominic Purcell) head to the reunion. Ava is ecstatic, as this masked slayer was a fascinating topic for her and her podcast.
Final girl Tiffany(Veronica London)-AVA COVERED THIS IN HER PODCAST, Y’ALL-is murdered at the fifteen year reunion, and things aren’t better outside for Nate and Ray.
Freddy now has telekenetic powers, and uses them to lock everyone in.
While Mick, Ava, and Sara are trapped inside the school, maybe Nate and Ray can go back to 1989 to try to “fix” Freddy. You know what else gets revealed? THIS IS MICK’S HIGH SCHOOL!
Posing in 1989 as teachers, the duo don’t make the best impression…
Nora Understands Dysfunction
…Nora, however, does.
Young Freddy(Seth Meriwether) gets Nora as a fairy godmother.
Freddy wishes only to make a good impression on the kids who reject him. First, he just wants a nice suit and second, a pony, uh, limo for the prom. Nora sees something good in Freddy. She has no problems giving out a suit instead of a pony.
Teen Tiffany(Jasmine Vega) really does like him, and foils a Carrie/Never Been Kissed disgusting dump from above by bullies.
Because the bulllies were unable to humiliate Freddy earlier, they finally get to knock him down and pour a drink on him.
It is Nora’s actual understanding of his situation that gives Freddie the confidence to finally be himself. Freddy is a player, not a slay-er. All he wants to do is dance.
He gets accepted and he heads to his limo, Tiffany and friends in tow.
Zari Gets in Touch With Her Alternate Self
Zari(Tala Ashe) touches a computer aboard the Waverider. As a result, she regains her hacking skills. She escapes the room Behrad(Shayan Sobhian) locked her in and walks right into 1989 and Freddy’s limo. The danger is over!
Wait a Minute
Except…it’s not over.
Freddy was never the killer. It was his psycho mother, Kathy(Beth Riesgraf). Freddy took the blame for her slaying spree. She died of a heart attack the same night he was electrocuted.
Who are you?

She attacks in 1989 and 2004, killing Mick, and leaving Ava and Sara as final girls(bucket list cross off-the final girl part, not dead Mick part).
Behrad saves the day, using the totem to air slam Freddy’s mother into the car. Nora is there for Freddy and reassures him that we choose our future.
Nora’s past helps Freddy’s future.

The past fixed, and Encore subdued, a dance, snogging, drinking, and playing in the photo booth are to occur forthwith. Oh, and Mick’s alive again.
In the Meantime(whenever that is)…
Astra’s witch mother is John’s best hope for righting the mess Astra has made. The trouble/good thing is that she is sealed by a sigil behind a door in John’s house.
Charlie tells him to go forward, the past is the past, and he unseals the door, disappearing into the dark of the room.
