1 Story. 28 Artists. No Escape

Quarantine

In the mad world we are all living in right now a comic creator came up with an idea. Jordan Thomas (Frank at Home on the Farm) was, like the rest of us, enduring the CoViD-19 Lockdown when he struck upon the idea of creating a comic and getting a whole bunch of artists to illustrate a page each. Thus the idea for Quarantine was born.

Synopsis

The Lewn family – David and Lucy, their kids Grace and Peter and Scraps the dog – look out the large window of their Ballard Apartments’ lounge. Outside a perimeter has been formed around their home that buzzes with electricity. An unseen person then informs them that ‘something is wrong in the building’ and they will be temporarily quarantined in an alternate universe.

ZAP!

Next thing they know the view out of their window shows stars and planets instead of parks and swings as they drift in space. Thus begins their quarantine.

They are kept in their apartment by Guard-Bots that patrol the halls. All their food comes courtesy of the Goo dispenser in their kitchen (purple is tastier than blue). They can watch one channel on the TV and they have no way of contacting anyone back on Earth. Tempers flair and Peter swears he saw a giant space slug fly past his window. However, all this soon becomes the least of their problems as their bodies start to change and they become a lot closer as a family than they’ve ever been before…

I thoroughly enjoyed Jordan’s Frank at Home on the Farm (although I’m yet to read #4) so I know he can tell a cracking story. It would be easy to discount it when you hear the name, thinking it’s just pandering to the madness we are living through right now. I’m fairly confident that’s not the case. If the above synopsis and the art are anything to go by, this is going to be one to remember.

Artists Who’s Who

The line up of artists for this madcap scheme seriously reads like a Who’s Who of the UK comic scene. It will feature pages from Andy Bloor, Andy W Clift, Clark Bint, Craig Patton, Gavin Mitchell, Gustaffo Vargas, Rory Donald, Rosie Packwood, Sarah Millman, and a plethora of others. To get an idea of what’s in store for you, check out samples of the pages by Gavin, Gustaffo and Craig below.

Not only that but the cover is being done by none other than Darick Robertson (The Boys, Transmetropolitan) and it’s sure to be incredible.

I have to say that based on the work Jordan and Clark have done together in Frank at Home on the Farm, and the samples above and on the kickstarter page, I am bloody excited to see the finished project.

Kickstarter

The kickstarter has some pretty epic reward tiers, including an option (both digital AND physical) to get your hands on a back catalogue of work from the artists involved in the project. 22 other titles are included in this deal which is frankly a bit bonkers. There are also (considerably pricier) options to get your mitts on original art from John McCrea (YES REALLY!) AND the cover art from Darick Robertson!

As the kickstarter is into the last few days (sorry, life’s been a bit mad) most stretch goals have already been unlocked. This means that as well as the comic itself, all 40 Prestige Format pages of it, all backers will receive pin-up prints from Warwick Fraser-Coombe, Iain Laurie, and the legendary John McCrea.

These are NOT to be missed. Feast your eyeballs on this stunning print from Warwick.

Quarantine Comic Pinup

There is one final, rather impressive goal left to unlock. With 3 days left and just under £1,700 needed it’s going to be tough but it’s possible. What is the final goal you ask? Well if they manage to hit that spectacular £9,000 target a 3-page bonus story with art by Luke Parker (Merrick), J Francis Totti (Big F#@k Off Worms) and another mystery artist will be added to the book.

Time is short, so if you want in on this amazing book, get over to Kickstarter and pledge!

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
