Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 Game Review – More addictive than triple chocolate cookies

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is honestly one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played.

It can be straight up brutal with it’s difficulty. With two games and their combo to get stuck into it’s not massively surprising. You can choose to follow the story or just play either PP or Tetris to hone your skills. There is also online battles and co-op for those looking for a challenge. And believe me, it is a challenge.

Or maybe I just suck. Either way, it’s fun.

Plot

The game does have a story mode and with that does come a plot but it’s very cliché. I’m almost certain the developers knew people wouldn’t be paying that much attention. That’s not to say that the story is lazy or rushed but it’s all very “straight outta anime.” Bad person pretending to be good person merges the two worlds. One that plays exclusively Puyo Puyo and one that plays exclusively Tetris. They do it pretending that they just want to spread more joy to more people but it’s clearly a ruse for a more nefarious plan…

But honestly I personally like that the story is barebones. It’s easily skipped and you can get down to just enjoying the gameplay, where this game absolutely shines!

Gameplay

PPT2’s gameplay is pretty simple. Tetris, is a fun take on the classic game and PP is a whole different thing. PP is basically a matching game where the different colour blobs drop from the top of the board and need to be in matches of 4 in order to clear them. The more you clear. The more damage you send your opponent’s way. The battle version of Tetris is the same, only you need to make rows of bricks to send walls that raise your opponent’s coloured bricks faster.

It sounds simple and boring and really quite silly when you say it like that but that’s the best way to describe it.

It’s simple but sometimes the best games are.

Review

Honestly. I love this game. I thought I’d hate it or at least get bored of it but no. It’s a game you can pick up and throw on. And play for hours or just a few minutes and still have a blast.

I got my version on PS5 but I would reccomend, if you can, getting it on perhaps Switch (if you’re not a trophy hunter.) This is the perfect portable companion game to keep you busy.
