So far a few bits and pieces of information have come to light, along with some photos from the first episode of season two, titled Rebirth. I thought this would be a good opportunity to pull some of this information together.
Great news first of all for anyone who thinks that the show has been lacking in Originals recently. Not only will we be seeing the return of the Mikaelson parents and at least one dead brother but Rebekah will be back too. We saw her with baby Hope in the fabulous trailer released at SDCC which used footage from the first three episodes of season 2 and it has now been confirmed that Claire Holt will be appearing in at least 5 episodes of the second season. This will be alongside her work on the series Aquarius. I wonder if she has taken any tips from her on screen brother Daniel Gillies about working on two shows at the same time. Gillies stars as Dr Joel Goran in Canadian medical drama Saving Hope as well as playing the honourable Elijah Mikaelson in The Originals.
There has also been talk of a crossover between The Originals and The Vampire Diaries and according to one source this crossover has already been filmed. No word yet as to which way the crossover goes, whether it will be some Mystic Falls residents coming to the Big Easy or the Mikaelsons returning to their ancestral home. Speculation abounds over possible plots for this crossover, with the ever popular Klaroline being seemingly top of most people’s wishlists. One possible theory involves the Bonnie/Damon situation and a way to bring them back, perhaps calling on the newly resurrected Esther Mikaelson for assistance.
Personally I’m still hoping Julie Plec wasn’t joking when she talked about “Original” vamp Alaric coming to New Orleans and hanging out in the pool with Klaus and Elijah.
Finally this week has seen the release of some brand new stills from the season opener, Rebirth.
We see a scheming and faintly murderous looking Klaus.
