Obi Wan Kenobi “Part 2” Review

Obi Wan Kenobi “Part 2” is the second episode of the Obi Wan Kenobi original series. Following Leia’s kidnapping in episode 1 Ben finds himself in Daiyu, a lawless city crawling with bounty hunters and opportunists alike. He sets off to find Leia, using as many leads as possible but is lured into a trap by the crooks Reva paid off. Seems this is her plan and it’s working perfectly, Obi Wan escapes the kidnappers and finally finds Leia who does not trust him one bit. They scurry around trying to avoid detection as Ben realises that a bounty has been put on him. All the while battling a headstrong Leia who doesn’t trust him and knows he’s a Jedi. Reva’s plan works and eventually Leia assumes that Ben is bad after seeing his wanted face on a bounty hunters communicator. She runs off and Ben has to give chase over the rooftops of Daiyu. Eventually she knows to trust him as he risks everything to save her from falling and dying by using the Force. Haja Estree a con man who pretends to be a Jedi for credits that Ben met in the beginning of the episode helps them escape by giving them both a way off the planet. They go to the are where the cargo ship is and have to hide from Reva who catches up to them. Reva senses Ben and confirms to him that Anakin is alive and has been searching for him for years. Her relentless search is stopped by the Grand Inquisitor but she kills him as Ben runs to the ship to escape. The episode ends with a scene of Vader opening his eyes as he floats in a Bacta Tank.

Leia The Warrior Princess

Really this episode was stolen by Leia but mainly Leia and Ben’s interactions with each other. She’s snarky and the episode itself makes fun of the fact that she doesn’t act or speak like a typical 10 year old. Ben shows his old street smarts that he was always well known for and there are enough small call backs to previous movies and shows to keep older fans happier. Like episode 1 though, it has it’s flaws, again in the form of Reva. Her character just feels like she was written by a seven year old and unfortunately she’s got more screen time in this episode, so more time to act extra as all hell (why the hell does she parkour her way through Daiyu? So unnecessary.) The fact that this is still Obi Wan’s story and the clip of Vader, along with the homeless Clone Trooper scene really do save this episode.

I do still hope to see more from the other Inquisitors, especially now that the Grand Inquisitor is dead, though I doubt he’ll stay dead. I’m already very sick of Reva’s attitude and her shoddy dialogue.
