Music Monday – Janelle Monae

Music Monday – Janelle Monae

Oh wow, it’s been awhile, but I feel like its time for a comeback.

Hello again, it is I, PurpleBrina, and I am getting ready to take you on a trip in my musical mind. Just this last Saturday marked 2 years since Prince passed away.  And I wanna say that I still listen to his music on the regular. But last week I came across a song that sounds just like something he would have written and sang. Seriously, Janelle Monae is channeling her inner Prince.  Even the video just screams Prince.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Janelle MonaeMake Me Feel“, which was just released 2 weeks ago.

Tell me this isn’t Prince greatness right there?! I love this woman and her ever unique style. Her music is so freeing and fun and sexual but not in a way that makes you feel dirty. It gives off more of a sexy and flirty feel.

A week ago she released another song and video for her single “Pynk“.

I wasn’t sure what to think of this song and video when I first heard it. But the more I listen to it, the more the song is feels kinda empowering. And I can’t believe I am saying this, but I kinda like Pynk.  The video is a little over the top, but I get that she did that for a reason.

This woman is on a roll; she released another song and video today just like 5 hours ago. “I Like That” is a slower, smoother love song. I love it a lot.

These three videos and songs show the different range she is has. She has endless talent and she may not be everyone’s cup of tea but you can’t hate on her for being different in a sea of music that sounds all the same.

Check out more of her videos on  her YouTube page or follow her on any of her social media
