Siren Review Episode 5: Curse of the Starving Class

This week’s episode of Siren had a very special underlining message. And a very beautiful P.S.A.

So much important stuff happened in this episode I don’t even know where to start.  But I guess the beginning would be a good place. We had a bit of a time jump, three months to be exact. And in that time the government  has been busy looking for the mermaids. It seems they have known about the mermaids a lot longer than the rest of the world. They are trying to drain the ocean of fish in order to flush out the mermaids. Bring them closer to land in order to catch them and study them like lab rats.

Ben and Maddie are still together but Ben is a little distracted but his longing for Ryn. And just when Maddie thinks she’s got him back…….Here comes Ryn and Donna.  They are back and they are hungry.

If you take anything away from this episode is don’t mess with Donna when she is hungry. She is not to be played with. Also she is not a people fan. She is a simple girl. She just wants food and the ocean.

Another shocker is Ryn and her feelings toward Maddie. Here we all thought she had the hots for Ben, but I guess we were wrong, or maybe in the mer-world you love who you love.

Speaking of Maddie, she had an interesting lunch with Ben’s mom played by Sara-Jane Redmond. I think Elaine had her heart in the right place but her approach was all wrong.

And biggest shocker of this episode was when Helen, Rena Owen tells Donna, what I called back in episode one, was that she too is a mermaid.

Here is a little video of Rena talking about her character’s big reveal

With every week this show gets better and better. I can’t for next week. Let me know what you think below.
