Money Heist : Welcome to the Spectacle of Life Round Table Review

Our favorite gang is back at it again for their final dance and we couldn’t miss the chance to review the last episodes. Will they make it out alive? Let’s see what’s gonna happen this time. Episode 3 of Money Heist is called “Welcome to the Spectacle of Life”. Are you guys ready for some more drama? Joining me (Rike) on this round table review are Sabrina and Maria Lorca. Let’s do this!

Money Heist: Welcome to the Spectacle of Life Synopsis

A betrayal and an emergency both catch Sierra (Najwa Nimri) by surprise. Palermo (Rodrigo De la Serna) rallies the troops as the army closes in on the gang.

Q: Tamayo (Fernando Cayo) calls another press conference to follow through on his plan to make Sierra look like a traitor for collaborating with the Professor (Álvaro Morte). Your thoughts?

R: Sierra went through a lot this episode. One could really feel sorry for her but I still have my concerns. Can’t tell you what it is that’s making me feel that way, but there definitely is something. Tamayo’s acting was a bit too much. He truly lost his mind and I’m scared to see what he’s up to next. He won’t listen to anyone but himself and thinks that he’s doing the right thing no matter what. That’s not good. It will end badly. I can see it.

S: Well.. Tamayo does seem a little desperate to be honest. I don’t know what to think about Sierra at the moment. She could be good for the group but she could be more than bad as well. I just don’t get her at the moment but let’s see what will follow.

M: The whole Tamayo and Sierra storyline is the weakest part this season in my opinion. Both of these characters have a caricature-like quality to them, especially Tamayo. This whole plan makes him look like a five-year-old child having a tantrum. I agree that his actions are extremely desperate and it seems obvious that he is digging his own grave. What bothers me most about this is, how many people are actually going along with him on this. Even the governor of the bank follows his path, which is highly criminal.

Q: Rafael’s (Patrick Criado) first robbery seems to be getting closer now. Do you think he’ll change his mind and actually “enjoy” it one day just like his father? The same blood is running through their veins after all, right?

S: Good question. At the moment I’m not so sure if he will get more like his father. I really can’t tell yet. But I’m definitely curious to find out more. The flashbacks are just great and I’m enjoying all the Berlin (Pedro Alonso) time we get.

M: I enjoy the flashbacks, as I love the character of Berlin, but this seems a little detached from the main storyline. I believe he will be able to seduce his son into a life of crime. Not because of the shared blood but mainly because he lives the most conservative life. His father is offering an exciting life and most men crave their father’s approval. I believe he might rationalize it by telling himself that the robbery will be a victimless crime, since nobody will miss the goods. I am just hoping that Rafael’s backstory will be tight into the main storyline at one point, e.g. when he swoops in as the professor’s joker.

R: He has Berlin as his father, right? He’ll make him enjoy these moments. I don’t have a single doubt about it. Rafael seems like a really intelligent person and I’m sure they would make a great team together. I truly love watching these flashback scenes. Berlin was and still is my favorite character and getting to know more about him is truly great. I won’t complain at all.

Q: Alicia Sierra getting her child. The Birth Plan. Did you see this one coming?

M: Not exactly. Of course, it was obvious that she was close to giving birth but I assumed that the pregnancy was merely there to make her backstory all the more dramatic. I agree with you that it was disappointing that this was the way the professor freed himself. He seems generally to improvise a lot more with this heist, than the elaborate plan in the past.

R: Well it was no surprise that she was pretty damn pregnant. Have you seen her baby belly? But I’m still a bit disappointed to see that this was the way the Professor could free himself again. I don’t know what I expected to happen, but definitely not this. I mean, she’s giving birth to her baby and that’s the reason she changes her mind? It makes sense, yeah. Don’t get me wrong. After everything that happened to her this episode I somehow understand it. But I kinda expected a bit more mind games from the Professor. Something different rather than a baby popping up. Sounds like an easy way out for me and usually that’s not the case in this series, right? However I’m happy to see the Professor being a free man again, for now.

S: I kinda guessed  that she will get her baby in that situation. I mean come on.. she was SO pregnant already! The professor just used the situation to free himself… but Sierra changing her mind just because of the baby? That was a little weird..

Q: Soccer references continue to be part of the show. Do you enjoy it? Or are you confused with all the references in general?

R: I can’t tell you how much I LOVE those references. As you might already know I’m a big football fan and every time they mention something regarding football I get all excited for some reason. Palermo is right. It’s all about having the perfect mindset. Never underestimate someone and never think you are too weak to beat someone. Hopefully they’ll continue bringing up references like these for the last few episodes. Fingers crossed.

S: I’m not a huge football fan but I actually LOVED the references in this episode! Keep them coming tho!

M: Being a soccer fan and having family in Madrid I love all those references. Spanish society is generally very soccer orientated and in a way this ties the story to the everyday life of Spain.

Your score (1-10):

S: 6

M: 6

R: 7. Some football references and (Berlin) flashback scenes made it worth watching.
