Money Heist : Live Many Lives Round Table Review

Our favorite gang is back at it again for their final dance and we couldn’t miss the chance to review the last episodes. Will they make it out alive? Let’s see what’s gonna happen this time. Episode 5 of Money Heist is called “Live Many Lives”. Are you guys ready for some more drama? Joining me (Rike) on this round table review are Sabrina and Maria Lorca. Let’s do this!

Money Heist: Live Many Lives Review

While surrounded by gunfire and trapped in the kitchen, Tokyo (Ursula Corbero) reminisces about her first love and her initial encounter with the Professor (Alvaro Morte).

We’ve had a lot of flashback scenes in this episode. Would you be interested in a potential spin-off and if yes, which character would you like it to be based on?

R: Usually I’m not that type of person who’s getting excited whenever I see a spin-off for a series, but this time I would like to see it happen. Berlin’s (Pedro Alonso) past would be exciting to explore a bit more. I know, we’ve already seen a lot of flashback scenes with his son Rafael (Patrick Criado) this season, but I’m sure there would be a lot more interesting stuff left to see for a spin-off. A spin-off based on the Professor would be worth it as well. However, it seems like every character has got a lot more to tell so I would love to see it happen one day.

S: I can’t really choose a person I would want a spin off with. The latest spin offs of other shows were so disappointing that I’m just not up for a spin off to be honest.

M: I would definitely love to see a spin-off about Berlin. Pedro Alonso has created an amazing anti-hero with Berlin and I can’t get enough of him. He can be charming and deadly at the same time. It would also be interesting to get flashbacks within the spin-off to learn about his childhood and what led him to becoming the man he was.  Also to explore the relationship with the professor and their father.

“So, do you wanna dance?” Did you enjoy watching Rio (Miguel Herran) and Tokyo dancing and getting to know each other?

S: I loved that moment!!! Even though I nearly cried my eyes out but yea it was great!

M:I have to admit I didn’t get too invested in their relationship from the beginning. I don’t know why, as they had good chemistry and the relationship was well built. Those were however really cute scenes and made Tokyo’s death all the more tragic, as it showed a softer side of her.

R: God, this was the best! So cute and heartbreaking at the same time because we all know how it went. But watching the beginning of their relationship was a bit calming compared to watching all the shooting stuff during this episode. It was good and bad for the soul. They truly deserved a happy ending. But with this series it’s kinda impossible to get one, right?

Monica (Esther Acebo) hallucinating after her first kill. Your thoughts on her favoring knocking herself out over supporting the crew?

M: That scene made me so angry! It was beyond reckless and completely senseless. I get that she was having a tough time dealing with killing Arturo (Enrique Arce), but she is a mother and her husband was there and her family. They were in the middle of an ambush and with all the adrenalin, I doubt she would have done that. The survival instinct would have kicked in and she would have forgotten about the guilt for the time being. I know from experience that when your loved ones are in danger everything else takes the backseat and afterwards you might break down. It would have made more sense for her to do this, after everything had quieted down and in addition to the trauma of losing Tokyo. To me that was the worst scene of the whole show.

R: When I first saw it I was like “What the hell are you doing? Go and help your crew for god’s sake!” It was kinda a selfish move from her not gonna lie. But as Helsinki (Darko Peric) already said, a first kill is never easy to handle. She’ll “get over it” one day, but it will take a lot of time. However, while being knocked out she managed to find the dumb waiter, which helped in saving Denver (Jaime Lorente) and Manila (Belen Cuesta). One could say that if she would have been faster, then Tokyo might still be alive now. But you never know and I don’t wanna call out one specific character. She did what she thought would be best for her in this situation. Maybe things would have been differently. At the end of the day they’re a team. One for all and all for one, right?

S: I can only agree with my two friends up there. It was just too much and I didn’t even know what to think and what was happening. I was just angry, like really angry, and didn’t really know where to put my feelings!

Your thoughts on the ending? Do you think Tokyo should have at least tried to jump down the dumbwaiter or is her behavior understandable?

R: May I just say that I’m an emotional mess? A huge emotional mess. Watching the ending is making me sob every single time. Just so heartbreaking and intense. This interaction between Rio and Tokyo. The Professor being completely broken. The crew being shocked. Denver and Manila trying to convince Tokyo to jump without success. This was too much. I think Tokyo made a decision for herself. No one could have changed her mind. She wanted revenge. She wanted to stop Gandia (Jose Manuel Poga) for good. Eliminating more enemies. I do have a tiny bit of hope that this whole ending scene was all made up in Monica’s mind. Like we watched her ending scenario and not the real one. But that’s just me hoping that Tokyo isn’t truly gone. I know the cast and crew already made a goodbye post for her, but they had to, right? Otherwise it would have been too obvious. Let’s see what they’ve got in store for us for the last five episodes. A lot more drama and probably some more deaths to come. I’m not ready at all.

S: Can we just not talk about this anymore? I’m still sobbing, like seriously !! But we all know Tokio. She made that decision on her own and did what she thought was the best and right thing. But that ending seriously broke me!

M: It is difficult to say. On one hand Tokyo was a survivor so going down as she did, without trying to survive didn’t make sense to me. On the other hand she had self-sabotage issues as you can see in her relationship with Rio. She was happy with him, yet she had to run and end up making a big mess, because let’s face it: Her actions led to Rio being found and the crew doing the second heist. I would also hope that she isn’t dead but I believe she is. I wonder who will now narrate the story or maybe her being the narrator is a hint she isn’t dead? Maybe she survived badly injured and the crew decides to take her outside to give her a chance to survive and we are hearing the interrogation?

Your score (1-10):

S: 7.5

M: 7 because some scenes feel a little forced.

R: 8
