Walker : They Started It Round Table Review

Season 2 is finally here. Are you guys ready for another roller coaster ride of emotions? This Walker episode is called “They Started It” and trust me, you don’t wanna miss out on this one. Joining me (Rike) on this round table review are Kassi and Walker Source. Let’s do this!

Walker: They Started It Synopsis

Walker (Jared Padalecki) realizes his life is at risk and confronts Captain James (Coby Bell) who confesses to him the real reason Micki (Lindsey Morgan) went undercover. The Davidsons’ return home sets Abeline (Molly Hagan) on edge as there is dark history between the two families.

Your opinion about this episode in general?

Rike: What a great way to kick off the new season. Already handing the new drama to us on a silver platter. I like that. The whole fire story made me curious about what really happened that night. Also seeing Micki undercover, jumping into another character and pretending to be someone else. She really can do anything. But no surprise here, right? What a bummer that Liam’s (Keegan Allen) DA position was taken from him. He deserved that!

Walker Source: This was probably one of our favorite episodes of the show so far! It feels like they managed to find the perfect mix of drama, action, and a bit of humor really well. It was definitely interesting to see how Walker and Trey’s (Jeff Pierre) relationship evolved while Micki had been undercover for the past several months. Not to mention how amazing it was to see Micki undercover as “Yvette” and finally catch up with her and see what she was doing during her time undercover. It was great to see the Micki and Trey moment in the bar as well as the Micki and Walker moment when they reunited. But the best part by far was getting to see Micki being a badass on her own!

Kassi: I absolutely agree with Rike. Seeing Micki as “Yvette” was honestly one of the highlights of this episode. But I’ve got to admit that the reunion scene between Trey and Micki broke my heart. It was so clear to see how much they missed each other and I truly hope that they’ll get a chance to really talk to each other soon. Seeing how close Trey and the Walker family have become in those 3 months that Micki was gone made me really happy though. I’m glad that they’ve taken him under their wing. I have to admit that this has become one of my favorite episodes of Walker.

Micki went radio silence for 3 months being undercover. Do you think she became too accustomed to the lifestyle? Is she starting to grow too close to the people she’s been lying to?

Walker Source: It doesn’t seem like Micki necessarily became “consumed with the lifestyle” undercover as much as she grew accustomed to being more isolated and doing things on her own. That’s the nature of undercover work though, you have to shut down a certain side of yourself in order to survive and make it work. It also seems like the longer the mission has gone on, and the longer she’s been away from the people she loves, the more consumed Micki has become with completing the mission and not giving up. She’s put so many months of work into trying to infiltrate Serrano’s (Henderson Wade) inner circle, and feels like she’s finally getting close, so for Captain James to pull her out now would be hard. Micki seems like the type of person who wants to finish a job once she’s started it, and it’s definitely an admirable quality to have, but it’s clear being undercover for so long is taking its toll.

Kassi: Yeah I think so. If you spend time with someone every single day, you automatically become close to them and I think that she really started to care about Spider (Bryan Craig). I kind of suspect that this lifestyle reminds her of “the one that got away”. She mentioned him once in Season 1 and again this episode when she told Spider that she learned the car thing from him. So who knows, maybe nostalgia has a little bit to do with all of that. I really hope that when this is all over, it won’t affect Micki like being Duke affected Cordell.

Rike: You have to become accustomed to the lifestyle to a certain degree. Adapt to the new situation and not remain restricted or stuck. It’s probably a good thing that Trey and Walker showed up and by that confronted her with her “old” life. We already know that there’s the “one that got away” and this person probably already knows something about Yvette aka Micki. Hopefully not too much to destroy her. Let’s see if she can get back to her normal life. Walker is being concerned for a reason in my opinion. Hopefully it will all work out in the end.

Love and undercover work do not mix. Your thoughts on the “one that got away”? Is Micki in a lot of danger already? Does this man know too much about her?

Kassi: Micki did mention last season that Garrison (Matthew Barnes) was her friend so it’s safe to assume that he knows a lot about her. So yeah, I do think that she’s in danger. The question is will he blow her cover or will he keep the fact that she’s not “Yvette” to himself. Personally, I do hope that he cares about her enough to not tell his boss about who she really is. And I agree with Rike. I hope that this storyline doesn’t turn into the typical “I’m getting back together with the one that got away”. Micki and Trey have such a healthy relationship and I hope that Garrison doesn’t get in between that.

Rike: Of course there has to be this one person. He’s not bad looking, I give you that. But I do pray that he won’t hurt her or anybody close to Micki. Don’t put them in danger again. Please. And for god’s sake there’s only Micki and Trey for me. Nothing should come between them. Not a single thing or person. They worked hard to get to the point where they are right now. Don’t ruin that for me, for all of us. I’ll take that wordless exchange as a bad sign. Ending the episode like that. God. Trouble incoming. Big trouble and S2 just started. Am I going to survive that?

Walker Source: It’s hard to tell if Micki is in danger or not since “the one who got away” aka Garrison Murphy knows who she is. Will he be an ally and help her? Or will he use his past knowledge about her against her? The next episode will reveal that to us. We know from a past episode where Micki talked about Garrison, that he was kind of bad news and that she herself wasn’t following the best path when she was with him. Learning more about their past relationship will be interesting, but we think that Micki is smart enough and strong enough to withstand whatever Garrison might throw her way, and not allow it to jeopardize the mission.

The story is that Denise’s (Amara Zaragoza) father died trying to save Cordi. Did you enjoy these short flashback scenes with young Cordell (Mason Thames) and a young Denise (Lila Jean Gonzalez)?

Rike: Yes! When I first read that they casted someone as a young Cordell I was already excited about it. I pretty much enjoyed all the flashback scenes last season and I’m sure I’ll enjoy them as much this time. To be honest, I was a bit confused at first with the whole situation and the fire but when the Davidson’s arrived it all started to make sense. There’s probably a lot more to come. Everyone seems to have a different story about what happened that night and everyone is pretty emotional about it. Definitely a lot of anger. I pretty much doubt that there will be peace between the two families anytime soon.

Walker Source: We really enjoyed the flashbacks with young Walker and Denise, Mason Thames certainly makes a good young Cordell Walker. It seems like we know the whole truth about what happened in that barn and we’re looking forward to seeing more of the feud that happened between the Walkers and the Davidsons. One thing is sure though, Denise still likes Walker and we’re curious to see how this relationship will evolve.

Kassi: I’m not a big fan of the Davidson’s but I really liked the flashback scenes. The thing is, I’m not sure if what we saw is what really happened. Like Rike said, everyone has a different story about what happened. Even Cordell himself admitted that he isn’t sure if what he remembers is true. So maybe the flashback scenes didn’t show what actually happened – maybe they showed what other people have told him about the fire afterwards.

Stella (Violet Brinson) didn’t deserve to be called an entitled princess. Do you think this is going to end up in an enemies to lovers kinda thing between Colton (Jalen Thomas Brooks) and Stella one day?

Walker Source: We don’t think Stella and Colton’s relationship will become a romance even though Jared has been comparing the Hatfield and the McCoy families to the Walker and the Davidsons. In the story of the Hatfield and McCoys, a boy and a girl did fall in love even though their families disapproved of their romance because of their feud. But it seems like having a romance between Stella and Colton would look too much like the romance Stella had with Trevor in Season 1 and it’d be nice to see her bond with Colton without involving romantic feelings. Platonic relationships are just as interesting and important to explore.

Kassi: I truly hope that they will not go with the “enemies to lovers” storyline because this is just a disaster waiting to happen. Stella is still healing from what happened with Trevor and I don’t think that throwing herself into a new relationship is the best thing for her right now. But unfortunately I do think that this is where this storyline is headed.

Rike: I mean, now that Trevor seems to be gone for good there’s a free spot, right? Not saying that I would like to see this happen, but I guess the writers are convinced otherwise. Stella seems to like the “bad” guys and wants that extra kick from time to time. But at least she wouldn’t jump into that relationship by trying to win Cordell’s attention just like she did with Trevor. She knows that Cordell changed but that doesn’t mean that she’s not up for another problematic ending relationship, right? There gotta be more drama with this one.

Your score (1-10):

Kassi: It’s a 9 for me.

Rike: A solid 8 from me.

Walker Source: A 9 for us!
