Mieruko Chan “As Expected She Sees Them” Review

Mieruko Chan “As Expected She Sees Them” is the fourth episode of the Mieruko Chan anime. This one being slightly different as it isn’t directly related to or reference the previous episodes like episode 3 did. And is actually a really sweet episode once all is revealed.

Review

Miko once again deals with the spirits she sees by ignoring them but for the first time ever, finally admits that ignoring them isn’t working. In fact things seem to be getting worse. A small old man spirit tricks her and she follows it thinking it’s cute only to be lead to the “leader” who’s a massive grizzly old man ghost. She’s then followed by that ghost home only she doesn’t know it until the final moments of the episode.

The best most stand out parts of this episode for sure were, Kyousuke, Miko’s little brother stalking her because he thinks her weird behaviour is due to a boyfriend. Miko finally admitting that things are getting worse, not better, as ignoring the ghosts clearly isn’t working. And the “Sixth Sense” moment at the end when it turns out her father, who was having breakfast with the family, is dead and she’s been seeing his ghost. It was clearly painful and shocking for Miko to see him. Especially considering he looks nothing like the other ghosts. But she dealt with him the same way she did the others. Once again showing how mentally tough she is.

There’s lots of little hints in this episode that episode 5 will be a turning point for Miko. Things are slowly being set up for her story. What it is, we’ll have to find out but I love the sense of real tension and excitement each episode brings. Something that’s always handled so well in this show. I wasn’t expecting the genius comedy moments but they were there and they worked perfectly to balance the episode.
