Mieruko Chan “She Still Sees Them” Review

Mieruko Chan “She Still Sees Them” is the third episode of the Mieruko Chan anime. Following Miko’s revelation that her new “sight” will inevitably affect her everyday life in episode 2. She continues on a desperate crusade to ward off the ghosts by buying prayer beads whilst on a day out with Hana. Naturally things don’t go quite as planned. As Miko is haunted by a chatty bus passenger, a jealous dead ex of a wannabe playboy and followed by a random ghost she has to walk through.

Plot

Things get off to an interesting start when Miko is forced to miss her bus stop so she doesn’t have to follow a ghost off the bus at the same stop. Thankfully Hana is a ditzy as ever and doesn’t mind considering she’s late anyway. Poor Miko has to keep her cool again as she’s accosted by a jealous ex of a guy in Starbucks who thinks he’s God’s gift to women. But she’s shows, once again, just how tough and smart she is by pretending she was staring at wrestlers. Totally the opposite to the Starbucks guy. Starbucks guy tries to hit on Miko but she sees what he’s like. Just as his date shows up, surrounded by dead men vying for her attention. As Miko says “birds of a feather” they’re both obviously trouble.

This is a hard thing for Miko to accept but her “sight” has saved her a lot of times now. So maybe it’s not all terrible. Whilst going to a desert shop Miko’s prayer beads are broken and she’s forced to walk through a ghost. Promoting that ghost to follow her. They find themselves at a fortune teller’s shop. The fortune teller being a powerful person named Mitsue Takeda. Who can sense Miko’s power but more importantly Hana’s extraordinary aura. Apparently all of Miko’s obsessions wit keeping Hana safe were for nothing as Hana is powerful enough on her own, neither girl knows this though. They’re given Mitsue’s most powerful prayer beads but even they are broken by the spirit from the alley.

Eventually they go home and as Miko remarks, the ghost stops following her eventually. Again proof, to her at least, that ignoring them works.

Review

This one was interesting. It led us into knowing more about Hana which I’m now massively interested in. And showed rare moments of weakness from the usually unflappable Miko. Her courage is starting to wane and I’ll bet it’ll give soon which I’m surprisingly excited to see. Finally it feels like Miko and Hana are part of a whole new bigger world than them and they’ve only just entered it. Can’t wait to see what they both make of it when all the secrets become not so secret anymore, Miko clearly can’t keep going on the way she is.
