I probably would've given this game a much higher Value For Money Score but it's £60 bare minimum and that just seems a little steep for me. The game is good but if you've not got a spare £60 lying around then it's probably best to wait for a sale or some money off.

“Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy” Review

“Marvels Guardians Of The Galaxy” is the video game version of the smash hit Marvel movie “Guardians Of The Galaxy.” This game doesn’t follow the same story as the movie, though there are little Easter eggs for the die hard fans of the series. Developed by Eidos-Montreal the same developers responsible for Thief and Shadow Of The Tomb Raider. I had my reservations about it, even if Square Enix were the publishers. I still remember the horror that is the Avengers game SE released. However I’m glad that none, well most, of those fears were put to rest when I finally got to play Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Guardians At Work

Marvels Guardians Of The Galaxy is actually a ton of fun to play. Taking control of Peter Quill aka Star Lord. You go from one planet to the other trying to right wrongs, make a name for yourself and maybe make a bit of cash on the side. Whilst there’s trust issues to begin with the game deals with it amazingly showing the team come from a group of individuals all with similar goals to a well recognised group who’ve more than made themselves infamous.

The gameplay is simple but fun. I will admit that chapter 2 is very slow. There’s almost no gameplay apart from pressing buttons and choosing dialogue options. It’s a very low point for the game, however it does pick up after that. Almost immediately you’re thrown on a hostile world with everything trying to kill you. But there’s still not a huge amount of action. A lot of climbing things and finding ways to places using each Guardian’s unique skill.

Too much chatting?

The story is so much fun. And in an odd way, makes up for the lack of constant action. The voice acting and story is deep and surprisingly moving. With Rocket’s snide comments coming out of nowhere and Drax taking things too literally. This game 100% harnesses the essence of what makes GOTG work: it’s characters.

Fighting is fun, especially when you unlock Peter’s elemental guns. The updates make you feel like a total badass and fighting alongside everyone whilst giving them commands brings a slightly tactical edge to it. For example if you’re up against a huge solo monster that you can’t stagger, call on Drax as his attacks are guaranteed to stagger anything. Giving you a chance to fire away at it’s weak spot.

Overall this is a fun game that makes up for the sins of the Avengers game and one I can see myself going to whenever I want to just play something that makes me feel happy. It doesn’t break the wheel or even reinvent it but honestly I don’t need it to. It does what it does well and that’s good enough for me.
