Made In Abyss “Value” Review

Made In Abyss “Value” is the eleventh episode from the second season of the Made In Abyss anime. Following the shocking ending of episode 10. Faputa continues her revenge attack on the villagers whilst especially zeroing in on Riko who she sees as the reason Reg doesn’t remember her, she may have a point the electrocution they did at the orphanage may have done something but to blame her entirely is massively unfair. She’s hurt and upset and needs to act out on the desire that birthed her. Belaf and Nanachi come along though and stop her, Belaf allowing Faputa to kill him so she can see her mothers most treasured memories from when Irumyuui first got to the village. Stopping her as she absorbs all of the information and emotions, it comes to a “it never rains but pours” situation where the primeval creatures of that layer can now get inside with the barrier down and start eating the villagers and attacking Faputa. She doesn’t stand a chance though and is quickly defeated, not all is lost though as she is saved by villagers who sacrifice pieces of themselves to help her recover. She does and the episode ends with her making a stand against the creatures.

Faputa The Tragic

This was just the most brilliant episode, though I will admit it does feel a tad rushed or at least like something else should be there before the attack by the creatures but they skipped it. It doesn’t affect the overall episode quality though but it is noticeable. I said before that Faputa wasn’t a tragic character for me but I stand corrected, she kinda is. She’s not redeemed and I doubt ever can be but I definitely was affected by her screaming out for Gaburoon as he was killed. I never cared much about Gaburoon but his death and it’s affect on her had my heart break slightly.

What I’m really excited to see now is exactly how Faputa will determine her value and how she’ll go on, if she lives, and what choices she’ll make regarding the villagers. Considering she was born of the desire to destroy them all and save her mother it seems unlikely she’ll be able to go against that.
