Made In Abyss “Concealment” Review

Made In Abyss “Concealment” is the fifth episode from the second season of the Made In Abyss anime. Following the cliff hanger at the end of episode 4. Riko goes off in search of her friends after getting information from the owner of the restaurant she ate at. She ends up in an underground cavern (after quickly learning some of the language) where she comes across Vueko who’s apparently being held prisoner there because she opposed the making of the village. Riko rescues her and they set off where Vueko leads Riko to Belaf’s house where Mitty and an unconscious Nanachi are. Wanting to save Nanachi she offers whatever she can, when told Belaf wants all of her she tries to haggle but is  given a choice, both eyes, both legs or half her insides as the price and is told she must choose. Belaf also clarifies that the Mitty here is a remake they made from half of their own body, they wanted the original but Bondrewd refused to allow it. Meanwhile Reg comes across the big super robot who escorts him apparently to the “real village” who seems to know a whole lot but also not much. Robots don’t move from their assigned layers so it’s still a mystery what happened with Reg, which is why he urges Reg to get his memories back.

Red Flags For Riko

This was such a good episode. Once again, nothing is off limits and nothing is too weird to happen. Vueko seems like a nice person who wants to help but I am slightly worried that she knew what was up which is why she sent Riko to see Belaf. I could be so off but something about how she said “you’re a nice person aren’t you?” To Riko and her nervous demeanour makes me suspect she knew and was willing to look the other way or was asked to bring her there. Either way things are looking terrible for Riko, knowing her personality, she probably will choose something and thinking about what she’s gonna do to be able to get out of this is going to be driving me mad all week!

Reg looks like he’s getting somewhere but if he gets his old memories back won’t he become a different person? Will he even remember Riko or who he used to be? And how can we trust it’s not a trap? Man I love this show, I’m gonna be haunted by the image of a dead Nanachi for a while now…
