Lycoris Recoil “Opposites attract” Review
Lycoris Recoil “Opposites attract” is the sixth episode of the Lycoris Recoil anime original. Following the murder of the lone Lycoris at the end of episode 5, this episode begins by clarifying that there have been 4 such incidents. Takina goes to live with Chisato for safety and finds her living in one of the safe houses they have lying around. They split up the chores based on rock paper scissors and Takina loses every single time, later she finds out from Mizuki and Mika that Chisato bases what people will choose based on their muscle movements but only if they follow the “rock first” rule if you don’t she’s can’t read your movements. Meanwhile Majima is forcing a random hacker, maybe a Lilybell, to find where the DA are so he can bring them all down. The hacker sends some cronies to take out Chisato but she stomps them and he uses that as useful information to convince Majima that the DA will never crumble as long as Chisato is around because of how dangerous she is. Majima goes after Chisato himself whilst she’s out on delivery but Kurumi comes clean to being the hacker that lost Takina her job and warns them that someone is after Chisato. There’s a fight and a massive car chase, in which Majima notices that Chisato is an Alan Lycoris, and even though he’s almost drowned and beaten is impressed and orders the hacker to tell him more about Chisato.
Non Lethals Aren’t Working Anymore
This was such a great episode. It highlighted exactly what I believe Chisato’s next struggle will be: her determination to never use real bullets. She almost died because of it, Majima is a madman and will go to any lengths to take her out so he’s definitely gonna play on the fact that he knows she doesn’t use live ammunition. Whilst it’s a good thing that the crew now all know Majima’s name that definitely won’t stop him trying something.
This episode did again what all other episodes of Lycoris Recoil have done: expertly balanced the serious tone with the more playful and friendly, with the girls being brilliant characters in their own right. It’s especially obvious here though, with Takina’s very clear character growth as she doesn’t get mad at Kurumi for her losing her job and Kurumi doing what she can to help her new friends.
