Warning: Spoiler Alert!
Insurgent stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James have addressed the controversial ending to Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy. The duo star as Tris Prior and Four in the big-screen adaptation of the best-selling novels and their fate has already been sealed. So how do they feel about their on-screen destiny?
The pair are gearing up to begin filming the two-part adaptation of Allegiant, the final book of the series this summer where the epic teen fantasy drama will come to an almighty close.
Just to stress, we are about to give away the ending; you have been warned.
Basically, heroine Tris played by the talented Shailene gives up her life for the cause. Can you say gutted? But the 23-year-old starlet, who recently has picked up her first Bafta nomination for this year’s Rising Star award, and her co-star assure the book’s conclusion wraps up the story perfectly.
“I thought it was totally natural,” Theo James told Digital Spy of his comrade’s inevitable fate. “I thought it would happen anyway, even before I was told. Tris’s character is all about self-sacrifice, she’s almost like a Christ-like character in the same form as in many movies – it’s kind of a current theme.”
Woodley adds:
“I think it was a beautiful decision that veronica made. How often is it someone you really admire and does take selfless risks everyday ends up living.”
