How it is with Brothers
The lion’s share of this episode takes place in the interrogation room at the Police station as Tiago and Lewis interrogate Diego. Given that two of the people in the room (and the audience) know that the “one who got away” was Tiago’s brother Mateo, needless to say the interactions are incredibly tense. The back and forth, veiled threats and sly wranglings keep the episode pulsing. If you thought Tiago was losing it last week, threatening people in the street etc, you’ve got a shock coming. Every scene in the station simmers with tension and all three of the actors absolutely excel. The climax of the entire episode is outstanding, with Nathan Lane’s Lewis leaving me in awe.
The other officers in the precinct will likely leave you furious at their attitudes, especially in light of events taking place around the US and the world this weekend. LA Doesn’t Care Who You Are When You Arrive…
We only see brief snippets of the other major players during this episode. There’s little to say about their scenes that isn’t already mentioned in the synopsis above. To say much more would venture into spoiler territory.
Molly and her mother share an oddly touching, almost normal breakfast together. Almost. I still think there is far more going on with these two than we have seen so far, especially with the connection to the Haslitt murders.
Townsend and Kurt spend some time at the beach and we learn a lot more about Kurt’s past and his motivations. Dominic Sherwood fans are in for a treat in this scene, it’s visually gorgeous and gives us a deeper understanding of what’s going on with Kurt.
Craft’s midnight woodland escapades with Elsa last week have a huge impact on his family in this episode. This seems to be the slowest burn so far of the various plotlines. I think from now on we are going to see a definite escalation in “Elsa’s” plans.
I think I said in my review last week that Mateo has definitively chosen Rio and Rico over his family, and that I hoped his family will be there for him when Rio is finished with him. The scene in this episode where Maria begs him to come home shows this is true. At least at the moment. When certain secrets are revealed things will change.
