Oh my goodness Angels. There are just TWO episodes left in season 2 and the Shadow World is pretty crazy right now. Join us now for our Shadowhunters Hail and Farewell Spoiler Free Preview.

The official synopsis, as released by Freeform;

After centuries of being lied to and treated poorly by The Clave, the Downworlders decide to come together and take matters into their own hands as the hunt for Valentine and Sebastian intensifies. But what starts off as a way to preserve their own, the Downworlders choice to break with the Shadowhunters, could quickly escalate to war.

My thoughts

This episode really surprised me, in a good way. First of all it almost feels a little slow. It seems like the final blocks are moving into position before what is sure to be a breakneck finale. But then about halfway through, all of a sudden the action and the tension ramp up to crazy levels. I watched it early this morning and I’m amazed I didn’t wake my boyfriend up. I know I screamed and yelled a couple of times!

My major love this week is for Dominic Sherwood and Emeraude Toubia.

Jace has multiple scenes in this episode with several other characters, and they run the spectrum from beautiful and emotional to tense and action-packed. Clace fans, I think you are going to be pretty happy with this episode. There is major forward movement in their relationship throughout the episode. That rune scene from the SDCC sizzle reel (don’t even play like you don’t know what I mean) is so beautiful while also being important to the rest of the episode. It left me speechless. And needing to open a window. Also, much love to the parabatai moment that made me giggle and clap like a moron. By the Angel I have missed Jace and Alec together.

Izzy has a couple of pretty major scenes. One is more emotional. Her other big scene is also emotionally charged while at the same time being pretty action heavy. It’s great to see her kicking ass again finally, and channelling everything she has been through so far this season into action.

Speaking of action, this episode features some kick-ass fight scenes involving our four lead Shadowhunters. Yep, including Alec “Head of the New York Institute” Lightwood. Time to dust off that bow Alec and get your butt back in the field!

The Seelie Queen’s manoeuvres to break the ties between the Shadowhunters and Downworlders has had mixed results. I cannot wait to see how it plays out in the finale. I know what I WANT to happen. I’m going to be a mess waiting for the finale!

Other highlights

The appearance of a certain Warlock I know many people have been waiting a LONG time to see. I do want to see more of her, and preferably working with Magnus. While it was wonderful to see her, we didn’t see ENOUGH! Sarah Hyland as the Seelie Queen is an intriguingly different take on the character from the Lola Flanery version. There is lots and LOTS of werewolf action including adorable newcomer Bat (Kevin Alves) getting involved in the Pack. Alan Van Sprang and Will Tudor are also still kicking ass this episode. Just in case you thought I forgot about them!

There is one minor bad thing this episode. Several plot threads are left hanging at the end of this episode. There are two relatively quick scenes right at the end of the episode that are left open ended. There are also some other scenes from earlier in the episode that don’t feel finished. I anticipate those threads will be picked up in the finale. I really hope so anyway otherwise the hiatus is going to be the least of our worries!

Okay, I can’t say much more without getting into spoiler territory therefore I am going to finish up. Thanks for joining me for this Shadowhunters Hail and Farewell Spoiler Free Preview. The episode airs Monday August 7th at 8/7c on Freeform. It is available worldwide on Netflix from Tuesday August 8th.
