Good news Dreadfuls, we finally have a Penny Dreadful: City of Angels trailer AND premiere date.

About Penny Dreadful: City of Angels

This spin off from the original London based Penny Dreadful takes place in 1930’s Los Angeles. A grisly murder sets two detectives (Daniel Zovatto and Nathan Lane) on a path through a city with deep spiritual and cultural history. Given the time period, the show is set to deal with racial tensions and the rise of the Third Reich.

The trailer gives us a good look at Natalie Dormer in her role as Magda, a shape shifting demon. Although it seems more like “wardrobe shifting” to me, since her face remains the same through a variety of outfits and hairstyles. Perhaps they are going for a more Quantum Leap style. Magda is said to be an agent of chaos, and sister to Santa Muerte (Lorenza Izzo).

I know a lot of you, like me, were hoping for a glimpse of Shadowhunters star Dominic Sherwood in the trailer. I watched it several times before posting this and haven’t seen anything that I can say is definitely him. The closest I think we have is the person leaning on the hood of a car at 0:45 as we know that Dom is playing a chauffeur named Kurt. I’m willing to be corrected if any more eagle eyed fans have spotted him more clearly.

Rory Kinnear who played Frankenstein’s monster in the original Penny Dreadful is set to appear in the spin off. He is joined by Piper Perabo, Adam Rodriguez, Brent Spiner, Kerry Bishé and Lin Shaye.

Premiere date

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will premiere on Showtime on April 26th at 10/9c.

I’m sure there will be more promotional material to come between now and then. We will do our best to keep you posted!
