His Dark Materials Art Installation

To celebrate the release of season 2 of His Dark Materials on BBC iPlayer a unique art installation featuring a magical portal appeared in the heart of Oxford.

His Dark Materials Art Installation

The 3D art installation featured Cittàgazze, one of the many worlds that viewers of the BBC One series will see this Autumn. The series focuses on characters travelling throughout the multiverse with the power of The Subtle Knife.

The location of the art was carefully chosen. Oxford is famously iconic to His Dark Materials and serves as the connecting point for its many worlds.

The 50m squared piece of art was created by world-renowned 3D artist Cuboliquido. It took over 300 painstaking hours to create and features 52 unique colours of paint.

Within the art there are several Easter Eggs that eagle-eyed fans will spot—from Mrs. Coulter and her daemon monkey to Will, Lyra and her daemon Pan, and shattered glass in The Tower of Angels.

Havas Media and Talon Creative Solutions created the 3D art installation in partnership with Global Street Art and Ambient.

The installation is currently still in place but won’t be for long, so if you are in the area and want to go visit Cittàgazze for yourself, don’t delay.

Clare Hemsworth

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
