Game of Thrones – Roundtable Review – Winterfell
Season 8 Episode 1 Winterfell
Arriving at Winterfell, Jon and Daenerys struggle to unite a divided North.
Jon and Daenerys arrive in Winterfell and are met with skepticism. Sam learns about the fate of his family. Cersei (Lena Headey) gives Euron (Pilou Asbaek) the reward he aims for. Theon (Alfie Allen) follows his heart.
With winter finally here, you had to know that with all the excitement, we the gals of FN would have lots to say. So we thought it would be best, if we (Jenn, Brina, and Sabrina) sat down and talked about it. Without further delays here is our Game of Thrones – Roundtable Review – Winterfell.
PB: And we are finally back to and winter is here FINALLY. The first of six episodes of the final season of HBO’s Games of Thrones aired this last Sunday. I would love to say it blow me away with excitement. But honestly to me this first one left me wanting. The running time was only about 60 mins and I really was hoping for me. I understand that the next few will be longer but I was just a little disappointed with this one.
Jenn: I couldn’t agree more. I was expecting so much more from this first episode that was/is the beginning of the end. I mean we waited 500+ days close to 2 YEARS for this and I was like meh.. I thought it was done well with opening scene with Arya (Maisie Williams) watching the troops come in and smiling at the little boy that was just like she was 8 years ago when the series began. I think that was a great nod to how it all began.
I also think it was great, to see the family back together again, where it all began. I don’t think we needed an full hour of it, but it was important to know the family still exists and that home is still home.
Sabrina: As PB said up there.. I was more than excited for GoT to come back and I don’t know what I was expecting but this first episode kept me hanging. I expected just more.. I don’t know how to explain it but it was like the big reunion and not much more. I loved it anyway and I can’t wait for what’s coming our way this Sunday!
Favorite Part
PB: For me it was Jon (Kit Harington) riding the dragons. Seriously time they are in the show they steal the scene as for as I am concern even if it was Jon riding I still love them. I also loved seeing the all the Starks back together again. It was nice little family reunion.
Jenn: The riding of the dragons, was EVERYTHING. I loved it. And Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) telling Jon, “no one knows how to ride a dragon, till you ride a dragon, ” was spot on. Her delivery of that line and her slight smirk was perfection.
The siblings together as I said before was perfect, and just what we needed.
Sabrina: I have to agree with PB again. Jon riding this huge and amazingly beautiful dragon was epic! But also the reunion of the Stark siblings made my heart melt. It was just beautiful to see them back together.
Sam’s tells all
PB: Ok the moment we all been waiting for since Jon and Dani got busy. Jon knows the truth about him being the one true king of The Iron Throne. Sam (John Bradley) tells him and yet Jon still doesn’t seem to believe him. I honestly don’t think he has put two and two together and figured out that he is related to Dani. But I also feel like it may not matter to him as he is so far gone in love with you.
Jenn: Didn’t they get busy before he knew all that? Jon is slow sometimes on the uptake, but I don’t think he is truly realizing that HE IS THE AIRE. I mean yes, he heard it, but I think he is slightly still in disbelief. I don’t think he cares if he is the rightful king. He doesn’t want that job. He would still be happier fighting and bending the knee to Dani.
Can we please talk about the look that the dragon gives to Jon BEFORE he and Dani get busy. I couldn’t stop laughing and smirking myself. Could you imagine, IF dragons existed, and that was the look..
PB: I loved the part with Dragon watching them kiss. It was like he was saying, “I’m watching you and I breathe fire…..you feeling lucky Punk?”
Final thoughts
PB: Seriously, where are the white walkers? I mean I know they broke the wall but why didn’t we get to see them this episode. Again I am just sad we didn’t get more in this episode. I need more but I am happy about one thing in this episode……NO ONE DIED! How crazy is that we finally had one but we were all to excited to have it back on that no one even cared.
Jenn: This episode was flat, I know we needed to play catch up, but seriously with only 6 episodes left, I expected so much more from it. I am fearful we will miss things and we will not have any sort of closures. We needed more, whether it was walkers or what. There were moments that were epic, there were some lines that were life. Like when Sansa (Sophie Turner) told Tyrion (Peter Dinklage,) that she used to think he was cleverest man around (when he told her that Cersei was sending troops).
One of my FAVE moments though was when Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) showed up and first person he sees is Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright).
Having Jamie at Winterfell to face his actions will really see what Tyrion and his allegiance lies. This will be a true test. What did you think?
PB: YES Jamie at Winterfell with all the Stark kids and his brother. This is either gonna be an epic beat down or some serious knee bending with ass kissing to stay alive.
