Channing Tatum’s Gambit gets a release date and a Title!

Channing Tatum Gambit

Twentieth Century Fox is FINALLY showing Gambit some love by giving it a Valentine’s 2019 release date!  Tatum first joined the X-Men world a LONG time ago and has been working hard getting his own solo film. The path to Gambit hasn’t been an easy one. The project seemed like it would never get off the ground. Only recently has director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) joined the project. Since his joining, you can finally see a movie being made.

Not only is Verbinski’s hiring a good sign, but it has popped back up on production listings thanks to a familiar working title. Omega Underground is reporting that Gambit has a working title, the appropriately chosen ‘Chess.’ Naturally, the name doesn’t hint at much beyond alluded to Remy LeBeau’s perchance for gambling.  That news comes at the perfect time with it getting an official release date.

Deadline revealed that Fox has given the Tatum superhero film a February 14, 2019 release. This will come three years after Deadpool made incredible amounts of money at the box office in a similar release window.

We’ve been here before!

Getting a release date is all well and good, but Gambit has been here before.  At one point it was set for a 2016 release with Rupert Wyatt directing and even had Spectre‘s Léa Seydoux lined up for the female lead. That was at a very different point in Fox’s X-Men universe.  They hadn’t seen how they could break away from the conventional superhero group movies. Now, they know how to create new fresh exciting movies based on single characters like Deadpool or Logan.  Given the wave of momentum Gambit is currently riding, fans should be able to push aside any concerns that a similar series of events will unfold.

Channing Tatum Gambit Gambit will be Fox’s fifth X-Men spin-off in this current direction to hit theatres. They’ve already released two successful standalone films as mentioned before,.  It seem 2018 shows plenty of promise already with New Mutants and Deadpoolset to hit theatres. The former is ready to drop its first trailer and the latter is entering the final days of production. With only X-Men: Dark Phoenix still filming (and still a year out from release), Gambit should receive a heavy focus from the studio in the pre-production world. As that attention continues, we will finally start to know what this film is going to be and who exactly will be involved.
