Fire Country Season 1 Review

Fire Country aired on Fridays on CBS and Paramount +. The first season of Fire Country has just ended. Below is our review of Fire Country Season 1. Fire Country is about a young convict who joins a firefighting program looking for redemption and a shortened prison sentence. He and other inmates work alongside elite firefighters to extinguish massive blazes across the region.

The show was reviewed for a second season.

The show focuses on a young convict named Bode Donovan, also known as Bode Leone (Max Thieriot). Working alongside Cal Fire, he strives to shorten his prison sentence by enrolling in the California Conservation Camp Program. Assigned to Edgewater, he works with his parents Vince Leone (Billy Burke) and Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), as well as former friends and fellow inmates.

Bode seeks redemption from his past mistakes with the help of Manny Perez (Kevin Alejandro), his mentor and captain of the Three Rock Con Camp. While battling huge fires that plague Northern California, everyone is dealing with their own personal problems.

Overall Thoughts

I watch many different fire emergency shows, what Fire Country separates itself from the others is that the fires are on a large scale, with sets of groups all battling the same thing. The storyline finds a way to keep your attention from the very start of the first episode. I love the friendship between Bode and Freddy (W. Tré Davis), with Freddy trying to talk some type of sense into Bode when tends to act first.

In the season finale when Bode lied to the parole board in order to get Freddy’s case pushed to the top as he was proven innocent broke my heart and then got me very angry. It was a Bode move, to sacrifice himself for his friends.

Sometimes, I found myself getting frustrated with Sharon and Vince. They were both dealing with their own problems, like how to handle Bode’s return and coping with the loss of their daughter Riley (played by Jade Pettyjohn). In the finale, it bothered me that they didn’t want to listen when Bode told them he failed his drug test. That everyone was so quick to think that he relapsed again.

Predictions for Season 2

It would be great to see Freddy work with Manny and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) next season to prove Bode’s innocence and that he did not bring the drugs to camp. With Bode now back in the main prison and far from Tree Rock, it’s going to be interesting to see how things work next season.

We also learned in the finale that Bode may have a kid, so it would be great if they explored that further. There are a couple of characters I’d like to see an increased amount of next season: Jake (Jordan Calloway) and Eve (Jules Latimer), with Eve taking on some leadership responsibilities.

You can watch all episodes on Paramount+.
