Fast & Furious 8 to film in Cuba

fast and furious

Hot on the heels (or should that be fender?) of last night’s People’s Choice Award win for Favorite Movie we have more news regarding the turbo-charged franchise.

It seems that Universal Pictures have confirmed that they are seeking permission to film at least a part of the movie in Cuba. The eighth instalment of The Fast and The Furious series will see stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson (another PCA award winner last night) and bad guy Jason Statham return for another high-octane adventure. This time around they will be directed by F Gary Gray, the much-lauded director of last year’s Straight Outta Compton. He also directed the remake of The Italian Job back in 2003 so he knows car stunts and Jason Statham.

An official statement from Universal Pictures (via DenOfGeek.com) said “Universal Pictures is currently in the process seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment (sic) of the Fast & Furious series in Cuba”.

This will make the movie the first Hollywood picture to shoot in the country in almost 50 years,

No dates have yet been confirmed, it seems likely to be later in the year as the franchise’s main star, Vin Diesel, is currently in production on the new xXx movie.
