The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Emma Stone is apparently in talks to play Cruella De Vil, the villain from Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, in a live action origin story movie.
Evidently based on the success of recent live action Maleficent, Disney are keen to fast-track Cruella. There’s not a lot of detail about this project yet, especially given that a quick look at Stone’s imdb shows several projects in various stages of production so she could be quite tied up for some time. Kelly Marcel is writing the script which will be produced by Andrew Gunn. There is no director attached to the project yet but THR says that the studio is apparently keen to begin filming this year.
Cruella De Vil was the evil character bent on collecting the dalmatian puppies in order to turn their hides into a new coat in the Disney movie, she has been played in live action by Glenn Close.
