This is almost the perfect game. Made really I think for shorter gaming sessions and that's OK. Spending too much time with it will feel stale but that's just the nature of it. It's the perfect game to play if you have time and want to grab a fun and challenging little number to keep you occupied. I can guarantee you'll almost always reach out for Evertried.

Review

Evertried is a game that, thankfully is snappy and fun. The game jumps right in with barely any explanation other than, you’re dead and you need to prove yourself in order to climb the tower and be accepted into heaven. The gameplay is basic, just directional as the game is played on a 7×7 isometric grid. This is prefect, as it loans itself to both turn-based and fast paced battles.

The turn-based come from the directional buttons. Each time your character moves a square so do the enemies. You as the player need to think and think fast to figure out each and every unique movement of each enemy. In order to get them to a square next to you or lure them into a trap.

That’s where the fast-paced part comes in, with the Focus Gauge. You can only attack so many times before it depletes. So you need to think carefully about who you’re taking out and who you’re letting fall into a trap. The Focus Gauge makes it that much harder as it goes down even as you stand still. You need to think but also be quick on the ball as the Focus Gauge going to zero is a game over.

Every ten floors there’s a boss fight which definitely shakes things up. The foes drop shards when defeated. Which can be used for upgrades. And if you’re lucky to get past the boss the foes on the other floors drop more and more currency the higher you go. One run of the game doesn’t last more than ~15 minutes. Meaning it’s a fantastic “pick up and play” for if you’re on the bus or something.
