Don’t Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro “It May Be More Fun Than You’d Expect Senpai / Let’s Do Rock Paper Scissors Senpai” Review

Don’t Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro “It May Be More Fun Than You’d Expect Senpai / Let’s Do Rock Paper Scissors Senpai” is the eighth episode of the Nagatoro anime. Unlike episode 7 this episode isn’t a natural continuation. Just a collection of things that happen in the character’s every day lives. Which leads to interesting results.

It May Be More Fun Than You’d Expect, Senpai

Senpai doesn’t work out. He hates it and makes that known. Nagatoro tries to show him a new workout which is basically just her sitting on him like a horse but they’re seen. Senpai comments that he wouldn’t mind failing his exams as it means he’d get to stay on and do his art club again. But Nagatoro rightfully points out that should he repeat the year, she’d be his senpai.

He imagines the hellish year he’d have to go through whilst Nagatoro, Gamo and Yoshi all tease him about him becoming their underclassman. Whilst he imagines it as some fresh hell, which it likely would be. Sakura comes out of nowhere and tells Senpai that all of them except Nagatoro have to redo their exams anyway so it’s not a worry.

Let’s Do Rock Paper Scissors, Senpai

Nagatoro is strolling past the door of the art room when she hears some pretty suspicious sounds coming from there. The voices belong to Senpai, Gamo, Yoshi and Sakura. And they sound heavily suggestive. She busts in only to find that the girls are just getting a splinter out of Senpai’s finger. Afterwards she comments that Senpai is pretty helpful, she’s obviously jealous. And whilst they’re walking home tells him to carry her bag for her.

She suggest they play Rock Paper Scissors and the loser will carry the winner’s bag. Senpai accidentally wins the first round. So when she suggests another round he tries to sabotage it without Nagatoro realising. The third round comes around and Senpai goes all out but he genuinely loses this time. Nagatoro makes him carry her as well as her bag. His hand accidently slips at some point though and he cups her upper thigh.

She runs home as fast as humanly possible and doesn’t contact him for a while. Eventually she does though and texts him her usual wind ups. Ending in a “what do you think I’m doing right now?” Text. He guesses watching TV or something but she calls him and reveals on the phone that she’s in the bath. His flustered expression makes her laugh and keep winding him up but she accidently presses the video call button and Senpai can see her in the bath. They both apologise in their own weird ways and go about being they way they are with each other again.

Review

I loved the change up here! Using some of the older chapters to show a whole new side to Nagatoro and Senpai’s relationship was genius. It’s streamlined what was a bit of a random and hectic but fun manga series and given what happens in the small chapters a bit more weight and emotion.

I feel myself rooting for Senpai and Nagatoro now instead of just enjoying the ride which I love. I genuinely cannot wait to see what happens next episode. Somehow I can feel change coming…
