Clare’s Comics Catalogue – Like Father, Like Daughter

Like Father, Like Daughter Kickstarter

A couple of weeks ago we were contacted via twitter about a new kickstarter comic project. The comic in question is called Like Father, Like Daughter and the kickstarter is running for issue 4 right now.

Like Father, Like Daughter tells the story of Casey. Her father abandoned her family to go and be the superhero known as Invulnerable. Casey has grown up watching the world and her friends worshipping this superhero while she sees him for what he truly is. It’s a refreshing take on superhero stories, seeing it from the perspective of the family left behind but it would be quite boring if it was just teen angst right? That’s why there’s a twist. See, Casey hates everything about her father, and never wants to be anything like him. But given the title I’m pretty sure that’s not an option!

I got in touch with creator Kat Calamia aka ComicUno, to find out some more about the project. Kat told me that the original idea came from a screenplay she wrote during her sophomore year of college (she graduated in May last year). It’s been a long journey to get to issue 4. Like Father, Like Daughter issue 1 debuted on kickstarter back in 2014.

Over the course of the first three issues we have seen Casey dealing with some major revelations. I’m sure issue 4 is going to be one hell of a ride, especially since it’s due to close off the initial arc of the story and send Casey’s journey in a whole different direction.

I was intrigued by something I read on the project page. The first 2 issues were funded via kickstarter but then issue 3 was produced directly. I asked Kat why she returned to kickstarter for the latest issue. She said “we find this platform a great way to connect with our fanbase, and it seems that our fans like purchasing the comic through the Kickstarter platform.”

And having looked through the kickstarter I can see why. The reward tiers are pretty packed. Especially the Make/100 tier.  Make/100 was a creative prompt focused on editions of 100. For example 100 issues of a comic or zine, or perhaps an event with 100 tickets.  I asked Kat some more about this tier. The Make/100 tier ($45) is limited to 100 backers. It includes all of the rewards from the previous tiers plus oodles of extra content not only from the Like Father, Like Daughter universe but also the larger ComicUno universe. It’s well worth a look.

Other rewards allow you to catch up on the 3 previous issues with PDF copies before launching you in to issue 4, or offer you the chance to get an action figure of YOU plus a variant cover featuring your likeness! How badass is that? Those rewards are extremely limited though so get on it now!

Those of you who read my other content here on FANdemonium Network may be aware of my love for The Vampire Diaries/The Originals. It will be no surprise then that I got very excited when I saw one of the variant covers that is available. The “Real Hero” variant takes a certain vampire Barbie as inspiration for a real life Casey and looks completely badass.

There are two weeks to go on the kickstarter and it’s about 3/4s funded as of today. If you want to find out a little more then some of the creative team will be doing a Q&A on Monday.
