Charmed Power of 3 Cast in Reboot

Whether you are happy or sad about the latest CW reboot, the Power of Three have been officially cast.

This new take on the show comes from ‘Jane the Virgin’ creator Jennie Snyder Urman, with writers Jessica O’Toole & Amy Rardin Deadline reports, and is described as  “fierce, funny and feminist”.  The reboot centres on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches after the tragic death of their mother.

The three sisters will be played by Sarah Jeffrey (‘Shades of Blue’, ‘Wayward Pines’) Madeline Mantock (‘Into the Badlands’, ‘The Tomorrow People’) and Melanie Diaz (‘Fruitvale Station’, ‘The Breaks’),

Prue, Piper and Phoebe??

Mantock will play the oldest sister Macy. She is a brilliant geneticist who is practical, driven and has her whole world turned upside down when she discovers magic is real.

Diaz plays Mel, the middle sister. Her IMDB lists the character name as Mel Pruitt, which would suggest this trio is not from the Halliwell family. She is a lesbian and a passionate outspoken activitist but loses her way following the family tragedy. Like her character, Diaz is an activist in her own right, and has actively supported the Time’s Up movement and polictical initiatives via her social media.

Finally, Jeffrey rakes the role of Madison, the baby sister. She’s a bubbly college freshman and is finding the whole magic deal and inconvenience to her partying and her desire to get into an awesome sorority. Jeffrey is also starring in another spinoff coming soon. She’ll play Daphne from Scooby Doo in the tech-Savvy movie Daphne & Velma, helmed by Ashley Tisdale.

Other casting includes Ser’Darius Blain (‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’, ‘Jane by Design’) as Macy’s boyfriend Gavin. He’s the ideal guy – funny, chilled, in touch with his emotions, and up for following Macy across the country for her dream job. He’s an aspiring filmmaker but has yet to make it big. Always the optimist, he’s sure that break is just around the corner.

Where’s Leo?

Also joining the cast is Rupert Evans (‘The Man in the High Castle’) as Harry. TVLine reports that he’ll play a professor, “handsome, grandiose, a raconteur with an infuriating charm and a mysterious interest in the three sisters.” In the Charmed Universe this could mean he’s their Whitelighter.

What does the original cast think?

Members of the original cast have yet to officially comment on any of the casting choices, however Holly Marie Combs did share her feelings about the reboot being in the works. Back in January she tweeted what looked like a sign of support for the news, but then followed up with a note about piggybacking on the work of the original show. “Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vas amount of writers, crew and predominantly our fans” she wrote.

The Charmed reboot is currently only a pilot for The CW at the moment.  If it goes ahead, it should land in the 2018/19 season. I’m totally on the fence about this reboot. I loved Charmed so much and by rebooting this classic show just seems like a complete waste of time because you can’t improve on the original. But i’m happy to be proved wrong and who doesn’t want a show about witches. Also begs the question about whats going on at The CW? With the Roswell reboot also coming this year, is this a year of just reboots from The CW, have they run out of original ideas? Let us know your thoughts on The CW and the ‘Charmed’ reboot…..we will let you know when hear more.
