Blinker #1&2 – Comic Review

Blinker #1&2 – Comic Review

Blinker #1 Cover

Imagine my delight when Rosie Packwood – Madius Comics member and illustrator of The Incredible Bun – dropped me a line and asked if I’d like to review her new, all ages comic Blinker. I said yes, of course, and I’m jolly glad I did. I’ll try and keep things as spoiler free as possible as I would love everyone to discover this one by themselves.

Synopsis:

Breaking out, sneaking past the guards and stealing a spaceship can be scary – but sometimes all you need is some encouragement from your talkative A.I. friend.

Blinker tells the tale of Merrik, a slightly-less-than-ordinary human boy, going on a wild romp across the galaxy. Cheered ever onwards by the chatty robotic mind known as ‘Trixie’ (definitely not Shangelica or Starlight)… how long can these two stay out of trouble?

Join Merrik and Trixie as they fling themselves through the stars in search for a new home.

Chapter two sees Merrik and Trixie dive headfirst into the hustle and bustle of Kudullah. Home to a wide variety of people from an even wider variety of planets – can Merrik and Trixie make their way here, or will they get lost in the crowd? Find out in Chapter two of Blinker!

Blinker

Blinker

As the synopsis above says, Blinker tells the story of Merrik and his A.I. friend Trixie as they journey across the stars in search of somewhere to call home. Blinker sort of reminded me of a sweet, all ages version of The Ballad of Halo Jones, especially in #2. Merrik and Trixie arrive on the space station Kudullah and have to try and find a way to make some money. They meet several very colourful characters. Seriously, even though the art is black and white Rae certainly has a way of lighting up the page!

However things aren’t all sweet. As we saw in #1, Merrick has a special ability, and is running away from something. I can’t imagine it will be too long before that catches up with him in his new home. And obviously the events that occur right at the end of #2 (which made me gasp in shock) are going to have serious repercussions too. I am really excited for April to see how things play out in #3.

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
