Attack On Titan “Traitor” Review

Attack On Titan “Traitor” is the eighty fifth episode of the Attack On Titan anime. And the beginning of the new team up, set up in episode 84. The team desperately need to get their hands on the Azumabito family tech. Namely their flying boat to get to Eren but they’re determined to do it without spilling blood. Unfortunately for them things don’t go as planned and Floch is much more tuned in than initially thought.

For the greater good

The plan seems simple enough but it’s clear none of the Yeagerists believe Connie and Armin when they beg to use the flying boat to stop the Cart Titan. Everyone is suspicious of everyone and the tension is palpable, it’s obvious the plan isn’t going to work but the anime stays true to the manga in almost every aspect and allows the slow burn of people’s paranoia get to them. I can see why nothing was changed for this part, when reading the manga this chapter was a highlight for me, even then it was paced so well as to let the reader / viewer know that the alliance don’t have a chance of winning without shedding blood but still managed to keep the question of “maybe?” In the air.

This was no exception, the soundtrack and voice acting were superb, especially during Connie’s breakdown. When he finally snaps after everything else has gone to hell it’s shockingly satisfying, killing in cold blood like that has always been something he can’t do especially when it was established just a few episodes ago that he’s no monster, he’s just weak willed. Finally Conny shows the truth of his convictions, the directing of it is extraordinary. This is one of the best episodes so far, thank God they stuck so true to how it was written in the manga.
