The Ladies Of Supernatural

Fierce Female Friday – The Ladies Of Supernatural

FANdemonium Towers is full of strong, fierce women, so naturally we decided we needed a Fierce Female Friday weekly column. Our second Fierce Female Friday post is full of strong powerful women, The Ladies Of Supernatural. Supernatural the hit series on The CW, stars Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), and Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester).\

While the boys are awesome and I am sure got so many of us watching, cause well they are a HOT, the writing and the acting is what keeps us coming back for, soon to be 14 seasons. We have met so many awesome characters and people through the show, but this week we are honoring and talking about The Ladies Of Supernatural.

That’s right we are focusing on The Wayward Sisters and all the awesome Ladies Of Supernatural:

  • Samantha Smith – Mary Winchester
  • Ruth Connell – Rowena MacLeod
  • Kim Rhodes – Sheriff Jody Mills
  • Felicia Day – Charlie Bradbury
  • Alaina Huffman – Abaddon
  • Lisa Berry – Billie
  • Rachel Miner – Meg Masters
  • Kathryn Newton – Claire Novak
  • Briana Buckmaster – Sheriff Donna Hanscum
  • Katherine Ramdeen – Alex Jones

Take that all in. These ARE The Ladies Of Supernatural and they kick ass both on and off the small screen. I have been fortunate enough to meet several of these ladies at a few of the Creation Supernatural conventions out there, and I am looking forward to meeting the others.

Mandi has this to say:

Photography has been half of my life. It’s something I didn’t think I could ever be remotely successful at, and gave up on for a long time. Conventions brought me back to it, but getting recognition from Briana and Ruth helped me to realize that it was something I wanted to focus on. The past 2 years, I’ve worked on getting the better shot, lighting, editing, working on branding. These amazing women (especially Briana) have encouraged me, not only on social media with every like or retweet, but in person. To have someone you admire tell you that your photography is “fucking awesome” and know you by your photos, is something I’ve only ever dreamed about. That tiny bit of encouragement from Briana has made me more confident in my photography, has helped me to get more bold with it, and it’s paid off. I’m so glad conventions brought back my first love, photography, into my life. I’m glad that these fierce women have taught me how to live my authentic self and that includes letting myself be artistic in a way that I see fit.

Below are just a few photos from various conventions that the girls have appeared at that Mandi has taken photos of.

Kim, Briana, Kathryn Newton and Katherine Ramdeen were to have (and SHOULD still get) their own Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters. For those that don’t know about the Wayward Sisters, search the hashtag on twitter. There was/is a huge campaign to get this to fruition. We got the pilot episode and then The CW, passed on it. Let your voices be heard. We NEED this show. These women brought another level to the SPN Family. Follow @WaywardDaughtrs on Twitter and make sure you use the hashtag #SaveWayardSisters as well as #WaywardSisters let YOUR voice be heard!

Kim’s character Jody has changed and evolved so much since we saw her in her first episode. They all have. We need more of them.

Off screen the ladies are loud, vocal, fierce ladies. They are #WaywardAF. They support each other, as women should. They fight for our rights and others. They are champions in all they do, off screen.

Our very Own Melinda has this to say about the gals of Supernatural

If anyone deserves to be recognized for #FierceFemaleFriday, it is the ladies of Supernatural! Our #WaywardSisters are some of the most bad ass females around. Not only do their characters bring hope to women everywhere with their ‘I don’t need a man to save me’ attitudes and serious demon ass kicking but the humans behind our favorite SPN ladies are equally as awesome. The heart and determination of these fierce females is what makes us want more.  They are humanitarians who stand up for the little guy. They inspire us to be our very best. They struggle with things and yet they still know how to be uplifting. They are the real deal.  So for these ladies I raise a glass and say “Here’s to you. Keep on being an inspiration and keep kicking ass! We need more women like you in this world.”

Sydney has this to say about Supernatural

Supernatural has taught me a lot of things in general, and a lot of things about myself. I’ve learned about sacrifice, love, family, self-love and self-acceptance, and the importance of found family. Even through all that, it wasn’t until Supernatural introduced me to strong women like Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Lisa Berry, and Ruth Connell that I actually felt empowered. I realized I’d never really seen proper representation of admirable women before. We’re not weak, and we’re not less than. I have flaws, I have shortcomings, I have doubts, and I am a more beautiful person for it. The introduction of these women and the subsequent Wayward Sisters movement by fans helped me to realize that. It helped me to be proud of who I am despite the world we live in.
In November of last year, I went to my second Supernatural convention in Washington D.C. Because of the confidence Kim and Briana have given me, I was able to cosplay for the first time in my life. My friend cosplayed as Sheriff Mills, and I cosplayed as Sheriff Hanscum- Kim and Briana’s characters. I was nervous and self-conscious, and I didn’t feel completely at ease until we got in line for our photo op with these wonderful women. When they saw us, the excitement and support was evident on their faces. They gave us huge hugs, did a little happy dance, and graciously posed for our photo…which to me, says everything I needed it to about women empowerment and the importance of women supporting women.
Because of these women, and countless others, I’m comfortable in my own skin. Because of them, I can like the person I see in the mirror, while also constantly striving to be a better version of myself. Because of them, I know I matter. I’m the person I am today because these women stood up and said “We’re women, we’re badasses, and we’re not going anywhere”.
Supernatural gave me a family. Wayward gave me a sisterhood.
