Attack On Titan “Retrospective” Review
Attack On Titan “Retrospective” is the eighty sixth episode of the Attack On Titan anime. Following the plan to use the flying boat in episode 85. Hanji is told by the Azumabito engineers that it wouldn’t be ready for a day. Plans need to be drastically changed and one of the team needs to find a new way and reason to fight.
The Fight Never Stops
Annie and Reiner hold off the Yeagerists whilst Hanji comes up with a new plan for the team so they can all get to Eren and kill him. As far as episodes go in the final season especially, this one is the most brutal. With Yeagerists getting killed left and right by Mikasa, Jean and Co. Whilst Hanji gets the ship ready to go to a nearby port, it becomes obvious that Libero will be flattened under the rumbling. Leaving Annie with no choice but to give up fighting, she never really wanted to anyway but now the only good reason she had is gone.
Magath and Keith Shadis go out like absolute bosses in order to buy time for the team and it works, the only ship the Yeagerists have that could catch up to them is destroyed. The entire episode shows off just how formidable this small and unlikely team are, there are times when Floch gets desperate that the Female and Armoured Titan are taken out but the humans hold their own well, likely because they’ve got something bigger than themselves to fight for.
The highlight of the entire episode though was Falco’s Jaw Titan transformation, the look of pain from Mikasa as she sees Falco unable to control himself and have to be cut out of the nape, clearly reminding her of her time with Eren really hit hard. It’s barely there for a second but it’s a powerful second that hits hard emotionally.
Overall this was the best episode of the final season so far. Everything is still to play for and no-one is particularly in the clear yet, just as I’d expect from Attack On Titan.
