The episode starts off when Eddie (Ryan Guzman) is called to his aunt’s house as he was tricked into a blind date with Vanessa (Natalie Ceballos). During the next shift, Eddie tells the crew about his blind date and that the power or the Tias are behind it, at this time Bobby (Peter Krause) announces that he will be seeing them all individually for their annual review. Chimney was the first one up for the review, outstanding all down the board except for leadership, which Bobby is making him return back to the academy.

Chimney meets up with Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody), at the fire academy who has been working with the recruits. In the first emergency call, the team rushes to a commercial bakery where the manager’s arm is caught in the giant mixer. The team works quickly to get her out and Hen (Aisha Hinds) discovers that the dough is stopping her from bleeding out.

At the academy, Chimney and Ravi mentor and lead the new cadets. They encourage the cadets to keep trying to rescue a baby from a fire. Recruit Novak (Delon de Metz) is the only one who succeeds. During his blind date, Vanessa wants to be just friends.

“Senior, huh? I guess that makes you an olding?.” – Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody)

The next call was from a teen having a panic attack. Maddie talked to him in a soothing tone and sang to him to distract him. During Eddie’s review, Bobby suggested finding the best work/life balance. Novak was freaking out during wall climbing drills, but Chimney talked to him and got him to listen. During Buck’s (Oliver Stark) review, he believes his PTs are wrong.

The next emergency comes in from a bodybuilding championship. When a former bodybuilder cut his arm on the trophy. It is discovered the former bodybuilder was using steroids and cheating his whole career. While trying to transport him out, Athena (Angela Bassett) has to control the crowds who are angry with the cheater. During Hen’s review, Bobby informs her that his paramedic certification was about to expire in 10 days.

At the academy, Chimney finds out why Ravi was still at the academy even though he’s been cleared to go back to work. Ravi is hung up from his last call, how a father drove off a pier with his kids, even though everyone survived, what upsets Ravi. Eddie tells his aunt about the date and that he wasn’t ready; she tells him about her first marriage and that she doesn’t want him to be alone. Novak quits the fire academy, as he is leaving Chimney gives him a number to dispatch offering a job. Chimney also talked some sense into Ravi and brings him back to the station.

Overall Thoughts

This episode was slower than the previous ones, but it was a nice change of pace. It’s good to have a break from all the action sometimes. I was happy to see more of Ravi in this episode and to see a different side of him. He’s one of my favorite characters and I wish we saw more of him. It was funny how we never got to see Bobby’s review. Overall, it was a good episode. I’m excited to see what happens next week!
