9-1-1 -- season 6 episode 5 -- Home Invasion -- Oliver Stark Peter Krause

Honorable Mentions

Watching Hoover, the dog they rescued in the episode before, get placed from home to home by the 118 firefighters brought great comedic relief. From allergies, chewing on the baseboards, to destroying the kitchen. According to Christopher (Gavin McHugh), Hoover may have separation anxiety if left alone. When Eddie (Ryan Guzman) tries to pass the dog to Chimney (Kenneth Cho) his household nanny quickly says no. Hoover is then passed onto Buck (Oliver Stark), but Buck can’t have dogs in his apartment. The dog is returned to Bobby. Athena and Bobby (Peter Krause) found him a forever home in a great neighborhood with plenty of space.

My Favorite and/or Least Favorite Part

The first call of the episode Athena (Angela Bassett) was originally called onto the scene for a home invasion and was greeted by the homeowner on the ground with a dislocated pelvis. She cleared the house but couldn’t find the invaders. The 118 is called out to the scene to assist the injured woman. This is Buck’s shining moment to play detective and found the invader. It was a raccoon in the pantry. The time was able to get the woman to the hospital as Buck boarded up an old doggy door that the raccoon came through.

“I’m positive Detective Buck” – Athena Grant (Angela Bassett)

When a DIY project goes completely wrong, the team is called out to the scene. Our victim was helping his sister save some money and spray some foam in the attic when the house caught had a kink in it causing it to build up the pressure and knock him out when the hose hit him. With no one manning the hose it sprays all over him and blocking the only entrance into the attic. The team has to poke holes into the ceiling to try and find the victim. Once they find him, they have to DIY him out. After popping him out of the foam and getting him into the ambulance they finally got him to respond.

Standout Moment

A series of burglaries have happened in the city, including the house that had the raccoon home invasion. Athena is working on the case with Detective Rick Romero (Danny Nucci) when she noticed that before every burglary the house had made a call to the dispatch center for another type of emergency. Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) noticed that the calls were all pulled up from the archive by using her ID. Athena and Rick believe it’s someone in the call center that is involved.

Maddie comes into the call center and talks to the new dispatcher Noah (Alfonso Caballero) about how she thinks she is going to get fired for losing her password. Noah confesses to Maddie that he took her password when he watched her login on the first day. That he used the calls to find out when the houses would be empty and then he passed along the information. When asked why he did this, Noah tells her that his stepdad was having some money issues and that his mother was threatened. Maddie got the confession before showing Noah that she was wearing a wire for Athena and Rick.

Noah told Athena and Rick that he gave the robbers one last address. The two police officers set up a trap and caught the burglars, once they were arrested Noah was then arrested as well.

My Overall Thoughts on the Episode

Hen passed her medical exam! Got to admit I was a little nervous as it did look a little bleak with some of the obstacles that had before the exam even started. Hoover destroys her house the morning of the exam. Hen is now starting the next chapter of her life and leaving the fire station. This also means the show is also expanding; it will now show the medical center. My drop dropped at the end of the episode as it leaves us on the cliffhanger. That an explosion happened in a technical center with multiple dead bodies while Karen is in the middle of this on the phone with dispatch.
