Ya Boy Kongming “Kongming Lights The Way” Review

Ya Boy Kongming “Kongming Lights The Way” is the fourth episode in Paripi Koumei anime. After the events of episode 3 Eiko and Kongming are approached by Tsuyoshi Kondo, one of world’s most influential music festival organizers. Impressed by Eiko’s potential, he offers her one of two options: take a spot at a local music festival with expected attendance of 10,000, or a major festival called Summer Sonia with an expected attendance of 300,000. However, in order to qualify for a spot at Summer Sonia, Eiko must first take part in the “100,000 Likes” Project, where she must obtain 100,000 likes on her social media page before the festival. Despite being warned that only one singer has ever managed to complete the challenge, Eiko chooses to apply for Summer Sonia, trusting Kongming to come up with a plan. Kongming figures that they need the skills of a rapper, and begins frequenting clubs and parties to find the right one. Eiko meanwhile focuses on practicing and composing a new song. Eiko and Kongming then decide to party in Roppongi, where Eiko confides in Kongming that her ultimate dream is to sing at Voicell Land, one of the biggest music festivals in the world. Kongming promises to help make her dream come true and Eiko allows him to hear her new song.

Eiko and Kongming

As much as I loved this episode I also found it the most forgettable. Up until the last few minutes, it seems to just slog by very very slowly, with a few funny moments thrown in for good measure. The one thing I did like about this particular episode though, was it’s determination to steer Kongming and Eiko’s relationship down a different path. Seeing as he’s never around, Eiko’s immediate reaction is to doubt and distrust Kongming, assuming he’s abandoned her knowing getting 100,000 likes is impossible. Eventually she comes to the truth though and it makes her appreciate him even more, so much so she allows Kongming the first listen to her new song and values his opinion. This was a new direction for this show and I liked it.

This is definitely the weakest it’s been though, for me personally. I’m certain it’ll pick up.
