Weed Magic #4 Review

Weed Magic #4 1000x600

Weed Magic #4 Review

Earlier this year myself and Jenn the resident stoner here at FANdemonium Towers checked out the first 3 issues of a series called Weed Magic.  Jenn reviewed it while high and I read them sober, and we both gave our thoughts. Turned out we thought they were pretty excellent. Weed Magic #4 was originally due to land in comic stores in April 2020, the 4/20 to end all 4/20s. Alas along came Covid and plans changed.  The creative team took advantage of the situation to take off some of the pressure and refine the 4th issue. It finally hit comic stores on October 28th last year so Jenn and I once again braced ourselves to journey into the world of Weed Magic.

And stay tuned right till the end as we have something a little special for you.

Clare’s Review

In Weed Magic #4 our best buds Moe and Bunny, guardians of the Magic Weed, take a road trip to New Mexico with their girlfriends Emily and Grace whose band “Blue Dream” is scheduled to play at the Area 51 Festival.

#4 leans HARD into the Area 51 location and a propensity for alien probes to hilarious effect, going right to the edge of too far (well, not for Senator Dimples apparently).

Weed Magic #4 Probes

There’s also a fantastic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas homage with Moe’s boss Irv and Senator Dimples (the talking Chimp) that had me howling with laughter.

As a continuation of the series, Weed Magic #4 provides more of what we’ve come to expect. Crazy Sativa fuelled shenanigans and an unexpected twist on a familiar tale – in this case, the Roswell aliens. I really enjoyed the story, especially the callbacks to Bunny’s ill-fated movie career and the exploration of Area 51, but, and maybe this is a lack of THC in my system talking here, this issue felt a little more random than the others. If you’ll forgive the pun, the MIB types obsessed with probing felt a little crammed in, and the sudden revelation that Irv used to work at Area 51 was quite out of place. It felt like nothing more than a deus ex machina move to get Senator Dimples to Roswell. Something that I don’t think was needed for this issue.

Jenn’s (stoned) Review

While I loved the other comics in the series, I just didn’t laugh as much through this one as I did the others. This Weed Magic just lost most of the magic. It felt very disconnected from the others.

There were moments of hilarity, mostly all the talk of the probing, but it just was lacking something, I can’t quite put my finger on.

Honest, I think this particular issue felt a lot like 2020, it was there, but meh… It may be the THC in my system, but it felt like they were trying to cram a few issues into one and they didn’t seem to click.

2020, was a bust with the exception of 4/20 the month, and maybe the guys were partying too much to get their deadlines done.  I know my deadlines were, umm.. pushed to limits, but I am hoping we get more issues, as I loved the others.

A little something something

So we mentioned something special at the start of this review. Thanks to Brian and the team behind Weed Magic we have 2 sets of signed comics (#1-4) to give away.
