Watch: ‘The Danish Girl’ Trailer: “I Believe That I am a Woman”

Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander star in the Tom Hooper-directed transgender drama.

The first trailer for transgender drama The Danish Girl has debuted online, offering a look at the highly anticipated film about the first person to undergo a sex-change operation.

Eddie Redmayne has struck gold. If you are anything like me and watch the clip below all that is in your mind is OSCAR NOM, and OSCAR WIN, please!

The movie, directed by King’s Speech and Les Miserables helmer Tom Hooper, Redmayne plays transgender artist Lili Elbe, who was born as Einar Wegener. Alicia Vikander plays Elbe’s wife, Gerda, with the movie focusing on their love story as Lili makes a pioneering journey.

The preview begins by showing Redmayne’s and Vikander’s characters in the early days of their relationship. Lili then has a moment when Gerda has her hold up a dress for a painting.

Lili begins dressing like a woman for Gerda’s paintings and an evening out, where she kisses a man and Gerda sees them.

Ultimately Lili tells Gerda “I believe that I am a woman” and Gerda, although she seemed reluctant to lose her husband, says, “and I believe you too.”

The trailer shows Lili undergoing an operation and declaring the need to change: “This is not my body, I have to let it go.”

The clip ends with a voiceover in which Lili proclaims her love for Gerda.

The Danish Girl is set to get its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will also screen in Toronto, with Focus Features releasing the movie in the U.S. on Nov. 27.

FANdemaniacs what do you think? Does this performance by Redmayne screen Oscar gold or what? We want to hear from you below!
