Warner Brothers Eyeing up ‘Joker’ sequel? – Will it really happen or is it all just hopeful rumours?
The Hollywood reporter today published an interesting article today hinting that Todd Phillips has made at least one new deal with Warner Brothers. The assumption being a sequel to this years surprise smash “Joker.”
When asked, nether the studio nor Mr. Phillips’ reps a CAA declined to comment on the new deal at all. Which has lead many to speculate that a Joker sequel could be on the cards. Either that, or a DC movie including Joaquin Phoenix’s joker who is a hot favourite to win an Oscar for his portrayal as Gotham’s clown prince of crime.

Becoming A Legend
Phoenix was heralded as the best Joker next to Heath Ledger’s legendary performance as him in The Dark Knight. Some even argue he’s better. With both WB and Phillips’ reps keeping their mouths firmly closed on the issue it looks likely they’re up to something the question is what?
I don’t remember much from the Joker interviews but I do distinctly remember Phillips calling off any and all sequels for Joker. He told the story he wanted to tell and as far as he was aware, he was done and happy with the results.
So what do we think? Will Todd go back on his word? Will there really be a sequel?
Perhaps WB just want Phillips in more of their future projects and this has nothing to do with Joker. I mean, yes, Phillips has made a real name for himself outside of comedy with Joker but that doesn’t mean that’s all he’ll do.
At the moment all we know for sure is he’s had talks with WB. Also has the rights to “a DC comic book character.” It could be anyone…
For me, I think I’ve always agreed with Todd’s original statement. Sometimes less is more. You don’t need to over-saturate a movie with tons of spin offs and sequels for them to be good. In fact, doing that often ruins them (for me anyway.) Even if this does relate to a Joker sequel or Phoenix’s Joker is involved somehow in a new spin-off movie, I really don’t know how I’d feel about it.
Maybe that’s just me though, what do you guys think? Is it all bogus? All true? If it’s true are you excited or apprehensive of the idea of a sequel?
