The Walking Dead: Slabtown

This week’s The Walking Dead addressed a huge question left behind from last season, “Where is Beth?” Last time we saw Beth, she was with Daryl fighting off some walkers, and then she was gone. She just disappeared.  All we saw was the back of a car with a cross painted on the back of it, and Beth presumed in it.

Last week’s episode ended in a cliffhanger, with Daryl coming out of the woods with someone, although we never got to see who that someone was, we can assume it has to do with where Beth is being held. Hopefully that will get cleared up next week.

In the interim, it appears Beth is in a hospital in Atlanta run by some staunch people. It become pretty apparent to Beth that she’s not allowed to leave the hospital and she must pay off what she owes them in the form of services. We also learn pretty quickly that payment can be in the form of labor or of a sexual manner.  This hospital is run by some harsh and corrupt cops. There’s also one doctor, Dr. Edwards and Noah a custodian. Of all the crazy inhabitants at Grady Memorial, Noah seems the nicest. His only agenda is to break free from the hospital and try to get back to his family in Virginia.  Noah clearly is the only genuine person, everyone else has ulterior motives, and it seems that paying off your debt is obtained by way of sexual favors among some of the cops. One in particular, Officer Gorman, forces Beth to stick a lollipop in her mouth after he’s already licked it, and the sexual innuendos don’t stop there. Its pretty evident he’s had his way with others that they’ve saved, but as we saw his time was very limited.

As Noah and Beth start to bond, Noah informs Beth that he plans on escaping. Beth figured out pretty quickly that this was no safe haven for her and she decides to help Noah and try to escape with him. Beth breaks into Dawn’s office to retrieve a key they need in order to escape. While there she sees a pool of blood and the body of a woman named Joan. Joan who just got her arm amputated and who also fell victim to Gorman’s sexual prowess, lies dead on the floor. Just as Beth finds the key, Gorman finds Beth, and as he makes his move, Beth makes hers and he lands in the hands of Joan who is now a walker. He gets viciously eaten by Joan, and thank goodness this guy didn’t last too long.
Beth and Noah make a run for it down an elevator shaft surrounded by a pile of dead bodies, they make their way outside, but Beth doesn’t get too far, captured by the cops on patrol outside. Thankfully Noah does, and Beth smiles as she sees him escape.
Back inside, Beth is in trouble and takes a nice beating for trying to run off. Beth has been pretty underestimated though, as she makes her way down the hall ready to kill the good ol’ doctor, here comes a stretcher with none other than Carol lying on it. My question is this, is Carol really hurt, or is this a ploy to get inside to try to find Beth? What are your thoughts?
