Walker : Drive Round Table Review

It’s happening. Season finale time. What a glorious ride it has been. This Walker episode is called “Drive” and trust me it’s one hell of a rollercoaster ride for sure. Are you guys ready to join us one last time for now? Joining me (Rike) on this round table review are Kassi and Walker Source. Let’s do this!

Walker: Drive Synopsis

Walker’s (Jared Padalecki) world is shattered after receiving shocking news that changes everything.

Your opinion about this episode in general?

Walker Source: We think the finale did an amazing job at balancing action scenes with more poignant scenes. Emily’s (Genevieve Padalecki) mystery was revealed to be even more dramatic as she was killed by someone she knew and appreciated which made us feel for the Walker family. The action scenes left us at the edge of our seats whether it was the shooting with Walker and the dirty cops, Stan (Jeffrey Nordling) getting shot or Micki (Lindsey Morgan) and Trey’s (Jeff Pierre) amazing team up. Now we REALLY need to know who shot Walker and why they are watching his family and we’re really excited about seeing Micki undercover! Season 2 can’t come soon enough!

Kassi: This was an amazing season finale! I loved that we saw more of Micki’s and Trey’s relationship and of Micki feeling secure enough in that, to invite both of her mothers. Another thing I loved was that we got to see Micki and Trey be the badass couple that they are. I also loved the moment between Liam (Keegan Allen) and Cordell, where Cordell just admitted that he needed to talk to his brother. It might not seem much but I think that this was a beautiful moment because Cordell put all his trust into his little brother when he needed him the most and Liam came through. Another great moment was the one where Cordell called Micki and told her that she’s one of the only people he trusted that second. Micki didn’t even hesitate when he said that he needed her help and just said “What do you need?”. I think that scene showed how deep their friendship already is and it highlighted how they would do anything for each other.

Rike: Let me just say this: Well done! They did a great job wrapping up one very personal mystery. I truly didn’t expect this when I first started watching this show. And let’s not forget about those final moments. Damn. I need Season 2 right now. They can’t leave us like that. I need answers. Can’t wait for the next episodes.

With Stan down for the count in critical condition, Liam is now taking over the DA position. Your thoughts? Do you think he has what it takes to be a DA?

Kassi: I really think that Liam would be an amazing DA. Knowing him, he would have great ideas that would actually benefit the people of the city. He truly wants the best for others and I think that’s an important trait to have if you want to become DA. I truly hope that what Stan did won’t influence his decision to run for DA because like I said, Liam has the potential to become the best DA the city has ever seen.

Rike: I am like 100% sure he got everything it takes to be an awesome DA. Facts. Can’t wait for him to take on this new role. He’s gonna smash it and even if he needs help from time to time, his family always has his back. No matter what. He got some amazing people looking out for him and now he will look out for other people as well. Go Liam! You can do this. I’m so happy for him and even happier that Stan isn’t in contention for being a DA anymore.

Walker Source: We definitely think Liam has what it takes to be DA, and a good one at that. He has a strong moral compass and a desire to do what’s right for the people around him. We saw him struggle with some fear and self doubt in the past, but ultimately he came out on the other side with a firm resolve to step up and be a changemaker in a more impactful way by running for DA. Not only does he understand what it’s like to be part of an underrepresented community (LGBTQIA+) as a gay man in Texas, but he’s also not afraid to do the hard work that it takes to make change happen.

Let’s fantasize for a bit: Do you think that if Stan would have played his cards right and didn’t act suspicious in the end, the Walker family would still be groping in the dark with Emily’s murder?

Rike: That’s definitely something one can talk about. Things definitely would have been different, that’s for sure. But I guess one day Stan wouldn’t have been able to hold the truth anymore. It’s still a pretty damn heavy burden after all. He kept it a secret for quite a long time. That’s impressive. But I’m happy he acted a bit clumsy in the end. Good for the Walker family.

Walker Source: It honestly seems like Stan would have taken the secret about Emily’s murder to the grave and never revealed anything to the Walker family. But since he made the mistake of showing his face to Mendoza (Joe Perez), it ultimately caused his own downfall. Although, when watching the scene you can tell that a part of him was relieved to finally be able to tell the truth when Walker confronted him.

Kassi: You know what, I think it would have come out one way or another. Maybe they wouldn’t have found out when they did, but there’s no doubt in my mind that one day they would have found out anyway. You can’t hide behind a lie forever.

What do you think of Walker’s character development? Do you agree with the fact that the old Cordell would’ve acted irrationally by putting a bullet into Stan’s head, while the new and improved Cordell wanted to be there for his family during these tough times so he chose the right path?

Walker Source: Would the old Walker have acted differently? Most likely. But we don’t think he would’ve killed Stan either way. If Cordell had killed Stan right away, everyone would have seen him as the bad guy because no one knew Stan was responsible for Emily’s death or that he was at the border helping Norside Nation pass drugs at the time. Cordell made the right decision by taking Stan to the border and making him confess since it was the only proof he had against him. Stan’s comment about having his soul split in two was interesting because while he was talking about himself it also applied to Walker who tried very hard to reform himself and not be his old “renegade” ranger self. However, trusting his instinct and taking Stan hostage is what got him results ultimately so in Season 2 we might see Cordell embracing a mix of his old “wilder” self and his new “reformed” self. Walker had one of the most interesting character development arcs on the show so far and Jared played the part very well.

Kassi: This might be controversial but I don’t agree with that statement. Has Cordell changed this past season? Sure. But his heart stayed the same and he wouldn’t have killed someone if it wasn’t a life or death situation. Acting reckless in some situations doesn’t mean that you’d act that way in every situation. He might have not always followed the rules but if the old Walker had found out about this, I’m sure that if push came to shove, he would have made the right choice.

Rike: He deserves a round of applause. Okay, maybe that’s a bit too much but he definitely changed for the better. We love the new Walker. No discussion allowed. I’m pretty sure the old Walker would have acted differently. Not sure if he would have been able to put a bullet into Stan’s head after all. But I could be proven wrong. Family is everything after all and I’m glad they’re able to be happy together again. Step by step. And now they finally know the truth about what happened. The new Walker definitely thinks twice before doing something stupid (most of the time). Yeah, there’s the dorky Walker as well, which I truly adore.

James (Coby Bell) has offered Micki an undercover gig to investigate the Del Rio syndicate and find out who may have been targeting Cordell. Unfortunately, that means that she has to put her plans to have a family with Trey on hold. Do you think this will tear them apart? Do you think Micki will end up investigating or will she choose her mind and start a family with Trey after all?

Kassi: I’m so happy that we get a storyline that solely focuses on Micki. She’s a badass through and through and I’m glad that we get to see more of that. We already saw her doing great undercover work as “Adrianna” so I already know that she’ll do an amazing job this time too. I don’t think that it will tear Trey and Micki apart. They have a strong relationship and they’ve proved time and time again that they have each other’s back, no matter what happens. Trey understands how important Micki’s work is for her, so I think he would support her decision no matter what it might end up being. What I do think is that Micki will actually be the one that doubts her own decision to go – especially since she finally got to a place where she accepted that she has two mothers and wanted to work on their relationship. I think that in the end she will end up choosing to go though because for once it’s her job and her job means everything to her but it’s also an opportunity to find out who targeted Cordell and we already know that these two would do anything for each other. But yeah, I’m honestly just really excited to see more of Micki being a badass.

Rike: Don’t think that this will tear them apart. They always find a way and I’m sure that Micki will make the right decision in the end. No doubt. She’ll definitely think about it and twice. Weighing all the pros and cons. Investigating the Del Rio syndicate is huge, but maybe family will be more important for her in the end. I don’t want to be committed. Let’s just wait and see what the future will hold for both of them.

Walker Source: We’re really excited about Micki’s undercover storyline in S2! We love getting to see Micki and Walker working together as partners, but it’s also exciting that we’ll have a chance to see Micki shining on her own and showing just how capable she really is. There’s no doubt in our minds that she’s going to excel in the new role, and it will be interesting to see how she grapples with all of the challenging situations and complicated emotions that she’s no doubt going to face being undercover. In the finale it was so great to see the mom brunch where everyone was smiling, happy, and getting along. You could see how Micki finally felt a sense of family and togetherness that she never has before and it was great to see progress finally being made. So of course going undercover could be a threat to that or take a toll, and Micki is probably right to have concerns. But if anyone can survive this type of challenge it’s definitely Micki Ramirez, and hopefully she and Trey can face the challenge together when she returns instead of her trying to go it alone like she has in different situations in the past.

James informed Micki that Walker was actually the hitman’s target and he was spared thanks to his bulletproof vest. Big plot twist: Who do you think might have it out for Walker or who might be behind this new crime syndicate?

Rike: Damn. The first thing coming to my mind was Trevor (Gavin Casalegno). He just disappeared and we never heard from him ever again. Maybe he’s up for revenge. Definitely a possibility. He probably knows some people from his dad, who would gladly help him out. But maybe it’s someone we don’t even know. Maybe another person from Walker’s past. We may be able to see some more flashbacks next season. To be honest, the sky’s the limit when it comes to this series. We will be surprised and shocked again in the end. Pretty sure about that. Hopefully not another person from the Walker’s friends and family bubble. They don’t deserve this kind of stuff AGAIN.

Walker Source: There were so many questions raised in that finale that point to season 2! One theory we’ve discussed is the possibility that the sniper might be someone we haven’t met yet from Walker’s past as a marine. The sniper clearly had training and aimed at Walker while pretending to shoot Stan. We’re also wondering if the person didn’t miss Walker on purpose for some reason? Either way it might be a good opportunity to delve into Walker’s military past!

Kassi: I actually think that it might be a character we haven’t even met yet. If it isn’t, then I honestly can’t even narrow it down to specific characters. I can’t imagine anyone close to Cordell wanting him dead.

Your score:

Walker Source: A solid 9.5 ! It was a well-executed finale that wrapped up every storyline of the season and set up more mysteries for Season 2!

Kassi: I will have to go with 9.5 because this episode was amazing from start to finish.

Rike: Definitely a solid 9 for this one. Great season finale.
