Mark Rowley joins cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin

With the final season of The Last Kingdom wrapped, fans of Scottish actor Mark Rowley, who plays Finan, can look forward to seeing more of the star as he joins the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin.

If his brief (but memorable) appearance in the first episode of BBC drama The North Water wasn’t enough to satiate you then you’re going to want to look out for the upcoming prequel series on Netflix. The live action prequel to the hit series The Witcher starring Henry Cavill is filming in Ireland at the moment and the first casting details have just been released. Mark joins the cast as Prince Alvitir, alongside Sophia Brown, Lenny Henry, Dylan Moran, and the legendary Michelle Yeoh.  The series is being helmed by Declan De Barra, who many of our readers may know from his time as a writer and story editor on The Originals.

About The Witcher: Blood Origin

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set in an elven world 1200 years before events portrayed in The Witcher (per IMDb). It will portray the events leading to the Conjunction of the Spheres, which merged the worlds of monsters and men. The first episode -titled “Of Ballads and Bloody Blades” – is written by De Barra and directed by Sarah O’Gorman. O’Gorman directed episodes 3&4 of the fourth season of The Last Kingdom (aka the Battle of Tettenhall) and 3 episodes of The Witcher, so she is familiar with the world.

De Barra gave a little set tour as part of Netflix’s TUDUM event in September, you can watch below. You might want to take things with a pinch of salt though, as it seems he likes to tease.

Not much more is known about the show at this point, and we don’t have a release date, but with Mark attached to the project we will keep our ear to the ground and bring you updates when we can.

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
