Tomodachi Game “Hurry Up and “Switch Sides”” Review

Tomodachi Game “Hurry Up and “Switch Sides”” is the ninth episode of the Tomodachi Game anime. Following the gruelling 3 days Tenji was shown suffering through in episode 8, this episode finally shows us Yuichi’s big plan and it’s great. Yuichi begins by asking to switch sides knowing full well the leader of the group wouldn’t allow it, whilst he waits and does seemingly nothing, he does a full personality analysis of group K. Knowing that a weak person like Chisato would likely follow Onigawara would follow no matter what, he shoves Maria off the edge of a cliff knowing Onigawara would save her and Chisato would have to help. Giving him time to run off and get food and water to Tenji. He does admit that part of the slow process was to test Tenji’s loyalties though. Shortly after, his next plan seems to just throw itself right in place. Maria acting as a source of strife between the two boys, Chisato and Onigawara by flirting with the former. It works a charm because Onigawara in the heat of an argument demands to be switched to Group C.

Playing A Good Team Against Themselves

This was such a good episode. It showed Yuichi in all his manipulative glory and though admittedly this was one of his more obvious tricks it was still fun to watch. Group K are crumbling already and it took only a day. The best part of this episode is not just how perfectly Yuichi played his hand but how it’s abundantly clear this isn’t his only plan. The audience still don’t know if he knows Maria is a spy, though  I wouldn’t be shocked if he did, and how is he going to tear everyone else apart? It’ll be easy for him but this episode sets it up so well that I can’t wait to see his plan in action next week!
