War is on the horizon and Ciri is in the middle of it all. Each side wants Ciri for themselves, whether it be to lead them or to kill her. Geralt and Yennefer are fighting against anyone who threatens her and are determined to protect her. Were there any moments that were shocking to you?

Clare – Jaskier being a scheming little shit was something of a surprise.

Brina – How quickly Geralt forgave Yennefer.

Amy – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Jaskier (Joey Batey) striking a deal with Philippa (Cassie Clare) to earn Ciri and Geralt’s trust by killing Rience (Sam Woolf) which in return Philippa could obtain Ciri. I mean, I get it, he’s probably thinking this war isn’t gonna end well for them. But seriously, going behind their backs to one of the “enemies”? That’s just mind-blowing.

While we get to see Ciri and Yennifer (Anya Chalotra) practicing and training with her magic, we also get to see Ciri and Geralt practicing her hunting and fighting skills. The skills she learned back at Kaer Morhen. Throughout the season Ciri struggles with her magic and would rather just focus on her witcher training. What did you like watching more?

Clare – I enjoyed both actually, but I think we got to see more of her Witcher side so I’m leaning towards that.

Brina – I liked seeing her learn how to fight. I honestly kept waiting for her to be upset or something and have her power blow out of her in one big bomb.

Amy – One of the things I loved about last season was Ciri learning how to fight. So naturally, I was eagerly anticipating this season, hoping for more. And I wasn’t fully disappointed as we got to witness Ciri take on not one, but two creatures, and she even teamed up with Geralt for one of those fights. Plus, she put her witcher monster-hunting skills to good use during these encounters.

Favorite moment?

Clare – The one that made me go “awwwww” was when Ciri jumped on Geralt’s back when he came back from hunting. OH! And when Geralt said he loved Yenn, and she told him he’d never actually said it before, that was such a beautiful moment.

Brina – I have to agree with you both. I love all the moments with Geralt and Ciri. He is this big scary witcher yet with her, he is all fatherly and loving.

Amy – The connection between Geralt and Ciri really pulled at my heartstrings. I mean, watching them throughout the seasons, like he’s in denial at first, fighting against it, but now he treats her like she’s his own flesh and blood. He drops everything just to make sure she’s safe, and he’s even got this sixth sense for when she’s hiding something. Total dad move.

Least favorite moment?

Clare – I’m gonna go with a whole episode… the final one of this block. I genuinely thought I’d leaned on the remote and rewound the episode when it went back to Geralt and Yen arriving at the party again.

Brina – I loved the last episode so much. It was my favorite one out of the five. I loved the back and forth of seeing how Geralt and Yennifer plotted and schemed to make it out of that party with what they needed.

Amy – There wasn’t a specific moment, but I found myself not particularly enjoying the number of scenes where things were unnecessarily dragged on. There were certain moments that could have been explored further, while others could have been condensed. If I had to pinpoint a specific moment, I would have to mention episode five, where the ball was depicted from multiple perspectives. It left me feeling a bit confused and I struggled to keep up with what was happening.

Overall Thoughts on Volume 1. Anything you’d like to add? Predictions for volume 2?

Clare – I still don’t know why they split it into two volumes, especially as uneven as they are. Come on, 8 episodes is pretty much a standard season on Netflix now. Splitting it into 5/3 is just weird. I’m very interested to see what they do towards the end of Volume 2, with the transition to Liam Hemsworth. I know they said it will be an “organic” transition, but I am definitely holding judgement.

Brina- I hope Ciri comes to full power and kicks some major ass. I am also hope and I can’t believe I am saying this but I hope they kill Geralt off or maybe have him get Yennifer magically pregnant so that in the fourth season when Henry is no longer the Witcher, the new guy isn’t replacing him but he is something new a different Witcher not Geralt.

Amy – It was very unique how they started the season off with Yennifer writing letters to Geralt since he wasn’t talking to her after the events of last season. I really like how they did that. How they ended episode five left me with a bitter taste, as I said earlier I was already having issues following along with the episode but the way it cut off made me think I was missing something. Which caused me to rewatch the episode and it still left me with the same feelings.

Overall, I actually like the first part of the season. The fighting scenes were on point. For the second half, I do hope we get to see some mage fighting, and possibly see the full extent of Ciri’s powers. Though I am more interested in seeing what they are going to do to Geralt since they are changing actors next season, as it will be a very noticeable change.

Hi, I'm Amy. I was born into the fandom life and was taught all its magical ways. When I am not working, playing video games, attending conventions (where I dabble in cosplay); I am binge watching anything and everything. Though I do have to admit I am more inclined to sci-fi and supernatural genre; though I have a soft spot for historical dramas.

Clare Hemsworth

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
