The Super Mario Bros. Movie Review

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is exactly what it says on the tin, a movie distributed by Universal Pictures but produced by an combination of Nintendo, Universal and Illumination studios. It’s the story of how the two brothers begin from humble beginnings into the heroes we know them as now. The Italian-American plumbers find a Warp Pipe by accident, are separated and lost. Mario (Chris Pratt) goes to Peach (Anna Taylor-Joy) for help and the two team up to stop Bowser (Jack Black) from his reign of terror and rescue Luigi (Charlie Day.)

Review

This is definitely one for the fans whilst also being for the family. The story itself is honestly a bit paper thin but the movie was amazing! The animation was beautiful, the voice acting was superb, Jack Black stands out as the best voiced character, Bowser was so well acted I was kinda rooting for him. The film is packed chock full of references, so much so that I’m pretty sure even I missed some somewhere but it’s all handled naturally. Well written and genuinely hilarious in some places, the kids will love this film just as much as the adults who grew up with Mario will.

Quite frankly, I loved it, it could’ve done without some of the random “pop song here” moments, there’s about 5 in the film and only one really serves it’s purpose but other than that it was a film that made me happy, sad, worried and everything in between. This Mario fan is very happy with the final result!
