Episode 5 is called “The Jedi”. This time it was written and directed by Dave Filoni. The series creator Jon Favreau handed his pen over for this one.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5 “The Jedi” Synopsis

The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and the child arrive at the city of Calodan on the planet Corvus. There they get to know, that the population is living in fear of the city’s magistrate, Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto), and her guard. One of them is a hired mercenary named Lang (Michael Biehn). Elsbeth wants to make a deal with Mando. He should kill a specific Jedi and in exchange he will receive a spear of Beskar steel. After agreeing on the deal, Mando and the child find the Jedi outside the town. What is gonna happen next? And what’s the child’s name if not Baby Yoda? I guess you have to watch the episode to find out.

(Ed: – Diana Lee Inosanto is Bruce Lee’s goddaughter, and as much of a badass as her godfather it seems.)

Plot, Acting, and Characters

A dark mood is prevailed throughout the whole episode and I’m all here for it. All the fog and darkness is bringing the audience into the right mood. Some fighting scenes most certainly shouldn’t be missing either. And we do get to see some pretty good ones this time. Get ready! And of course, nothing new, a Mandalorian episode wouldn’t be complete without some cute Baby Yoda moments. A good mix of everything.

Again, I don’t want to pre-empt anything, but the guest stars for this episode are just incredible. For real. Michael and Diana did an amazing job portraying those characters. What a great addition to the cast, one can tell. They really got me right from the very first second they appeared on screen. Such talented people.

Spoiler: Fan-favorite Jedi hero Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) finally makes her live action debut in this episode and what can I tell you guys? She did a great job it and I’m not even surprised about this. Definitely being worth the wait. She made this whole episode extra special for everyone watching it.

Last but not least the child has a name and it’s not Baby Yoda, even though most of the people will probably keep calling him that. To be honest, I expected another name, but it’s quite fitting for this cute little thing.

(Ed:  – I love the name Grogu!)

Final review

We are slowly reaching the end of Season 2 and so far I really enjoyed watching everything. Let’s see what’s still coming. Fingers crossed, that Mando and the child are going to be alright. I’m guessing it’s going down in these last few episodes. Scared and excited at the same time. This episode showed, that Dave is a talented director and writer. In addition to that, they did a great job casting Michael and Diana. Nothing negative to say about this episode, really.

All in all, it was some great work from everyone involved. You really want more right away, or is it just me?
