The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady “Episode 1” Review

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady “Episode 1” is the first episode of the anime adaptation of the light novel series written by Piero Karasu and illustrated by Yuri Kisaragi. Anne-Sophia (or Princess Anise,) the Princess who remembered her previous life at a young age, as well as her old self’s intense love of magic, set off to live out her fantasies in this fantasy world. One day, during a magical mishap, she stumbled upon a scene where her brother Algard was breaking off his engagement to his fiancee, Euphilia. What nobody could have foreseen is that this strange meeting would end up changing the course of history.

That’s the official summary of the plot anyway, I found, however that it was impossible to know that Anise was reincarnated into the world until I read it, now maybe that’s because I’m a little dumb but this episode in particular doesn’t make it obvious that she’s reincarnated, just that she’s odd for a royal in that world because she can’t use magic. The fact that she can’t use magic is something that’s brought up pretty much every other sentence, which is fine but upon a second watch of the episode I did find it a bit grating. A lot of this episode is groundwork laying but the direction manages to keep it fun and fresh. There’s heavy hints of Algard acting up because he has a real issue with his sister, hints that Anise’s father and brother know more about her than the “she’s just odd” story they tell everyone and hints of a possible political spat. All of which have my attention 100% because the characters here are amazingly written, despite me knowing Algard likely had a reason for his actions at the ball it didn’t stop me from hating him for what he did to Euphilia. Speaking of Euphilia, she clearly has a ton of secrets but is keeping them well hidden for now, I’m looking forward to learning more about her.

This is only the first episode and already it’s got me hooked, I love it! I just really hope the show can keep up the momentum, if it does then we’re all in for a treat.
