The Batman Casting Speculations

The Who’s of the Latest Round of Rumors

It’s getting closer to the time that production will start for Matt Reeves version of Batman, but no casting news has been officially announced outside of Batman himself.  So with time running out, it seems like the speculations are coming in.

Commissioner Gordon

@jfreewright
In news released yesterday, our first possible casting is for Commissioner Gordon.  J.K. Simmons and Gary Oldman are two of the more notable actors who have played Gordon in the more recent years.  So who is rumored to take over the reins of Gotham?  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeffrey Wright is the top slot of the ballot.

Wright is a seasoned veteran of the Broadway stage, Television, and Film; winning a Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe.  Best known for his roles in Shaft and starring opposite Daniel Craig in a few of the Bond movies, he seems to have what Reeves is looking for in the longtime confidant of Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson).

I know some fans were wanting a reprisal of Oldman, but I’m willing to see what Wright has to offer.  It is a new movie with a whole unknown plot!

And for the next part of the rumor mill…

The Riddler/The Penguin/Neither?

@TheInSneider

We know next to nothing about the plot.  From the little we have heard, there are supposed to be upward of 6 villains that will appear.  Two of The Batman’s nemesis’ that has been frequently talked about are the Penguin and the Riddler.  As of last night, Jonah Hill is the person of interest for one of the two roles.  As to which role or if it’s even one those two, we don’t know.  Supposedly he has been in talks for over a month.  The question of the day is: Is the difficulty in casting over money or over which role is better?  We may never know.  Most people can see him as the Penguin, due to his stature.  But from the sounds of it, the Riddler is getting more talking points.

Hill may not have been around as long as Wright has been, but he has acted his way to two Oscar nominations for his roles in Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Where Does This Leave Us?

So where does this leave us?  Well, it still leaves us wondering who is going to be cast alongside Pattinson for one of the biggest films of 2021.  What characters will be cast?  Who will be cast in them?  It’s all up in the air.  Come on Mr. Reeves, give us something to go on so we can be more excited than we already are!!

The Batman is set for a June 25, 2021, release and is currently in pre-production status according to IMDb.
