James Cameron’s The Terminator first hit theatres in 1984 and delivered a successfully thrilling science fiction/action adventure. It was a critical and financial success so Cameron returned for the sequel.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (best film ever) debuted seven years after the initial film in 1991. Though Cameron stepped away from the sci-fi franchise following the sequel, the Terminator series continued on. We had Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003 (sucked) and Terminator Salvation (sucked more) in 2009. Most recently Terminator Genisys (sucked the most) in 2015.

However, the franchise hasn’t been as successful since Cameron left. That changed earlier this year though. It was revealed he’s set to return as a producer on the upcoming sixth Terminator film, which will be directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool).

Arnold Schwarzenegger started off as the series’ titular villain, but turned ally for Sarah and John Connor in Terminator 2. Instead of Schwarzenegger’s futuristic T-800, Sarah and John were running from the newer model, the T-1000, played by Robert Patrick. Though Patrick hasn’t returned to the Terminator franchise since Judgement Day, he says he would reprise his role – or return in some other fashion – for Terminator 6.

During a New York Comic Con round-table interview for Patrick’s upcoming project, Amazon’s Lore, Screen Rant asked the actor if he’d be willing to return to the Terminator series. Patrick replied: “Absolutely! Anybody [asks] me to do anything, return anywhere, I am there.” However, the actor did not reveal whether he’d been contacted about reprising his role for Terminator 6.

What we know so far….

  • Cameron and Miller are preparing to start filming in 2018 for a 2019 release date.
  • It will be a direct sequel to Terminator 2.
  • Terminator 6 will ignore T3, Salvation, and Genisys, which are said to take place in an alternate timeline.
  • In addition to Cameron, original Sarah Connor actress, Linda Hamilton, and Schwarzenegger will be back.
  • Arnie will play the human that the T-800 is based on in the upcoming instalment.

With Schwarzenegger and Hamilton heading back to the franchise, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Cameron and Miller would want to bring back Patrick as well. Even if it were only a small role or cameo for Patrick, fans would no doubt appreciate it considering his and Terminator 2’s popularity.
